    Make cities conquerable please !

Please, that will bring much bigger scale to the game. Imagine if one group of guardians catch a defiant or neutral / small city. They capture a stone and spam their flag there (and spamming few defense npc's).

That prevents quest turn for other players while giving reputation points to the holder (or some other reward).

That will bring people of same faction together in cause of liberating/capturing point using public groups and in the end it will result in raid vs raid fights and fun for everyone. Especially if there is invasion ongoing 3 way fights - best fights.

The idea maybe is good, but like a lot of other ideas, they are not well thought.

    1. What happens if one fraction on a server is less pvp powerfull, and will lose constantly to the opposing fraction? You can not go on with quests which you have in this certain conquered city and this will piss off a lot of player

    2. Also you should only do this in lvl 50 areas, if you do this in lower areas lvl 50 people will just conquere the whole are. (And why bother with the small ones)

There are a lot of problems is you think through it.

If this was implemented, it'd probably upset a lot of either:

    a) PvE'ers whining about missing out on content, because the opposing side arent flagged

    b) PvP'ers whining about having the content, because it means outdoor world objectives are actually viable.

    Ways around this:

    a) PvE'ers get automatically flagged within these kinda areas during a foothold/invasion

    b) PvP'ers stop whining.

If it would give a proper rewards it would give people more reasons to be outside of dungeons / warfronts.

You are clearly in the wrong MMO. If you want that try the now dead Warhammer Online.

    They did it in Warhammer.

Yes, people whine endlessly about being unable to quest or whatnot. They even whine now about invasions taking over quest hubs in this game already.

Then you have realm balance which seriously lacks. Even in WAR where things were kept close to 50/50, or 40/60 is extreme cases, one side would dominate and the other side would take their ball and go home. They wouldn't defend. The devs had to make it worth the while with rewards just to get some defense.

I don't think things like this work with today's gamers. They want to log in and play a few hours with nothing obstructing them. Instanced PvP more like DAoC would be the way to go. Totally optional yet still massive and meaningfull.

I like the idea of conquerable cities / zones... It woulndt even be too hard to sort something out that wouldnt affect the normal playing world, so preventing any negative impact to people who wouldnt want to take part for any reason.

We've got a portal sytem. How about a portal that takes people to a new land mass purely for such activity. Make the zones / cities worth capturing with rewards for factions / guilds that take them. An extended version of the guild perks for example. Make a variety of types of battle, i.e. terrain matching what's on a "campaign map"... Sieges, open plains, mountains. Make it varied. Fixed number of players from each side... Maybe even make it negotiable between guild leaders prior to the match starting. It would be like Warfronts but on a grand scale.

This would be a simple mechanic to implement in a game such as rift.

For anyone that doesnt think it could work, check out the World of Tanks challenge campaigns. It's like a huge multi player game of Risk, where guilds battle against each other for territory, form alliances, spy on each other etc... The rewards include actual game gold, the sort you have to buy with real cash, so coupled with the fun of it, there's some real life incentives. FWIW, you should have seen the rush to join guilds and create new ones when the beta was launched. You could have specific quests to help give you you bonuses in each match. An instance where you have to scout, and instance where mages have to do something to increase the power of their spells temporarily. Pretty much any class could have a quest designed for it.

Any MMO that doesnt come up with such an event will be losing out on some serious life extending content.

Capital Cities lack Wardstones. (or that giant floating statue int he middle of sanctum is a poorly created one sorry artists)

Put Wardstones in Capitals that allow the other faction to capture and respawn from them until taken back.

Simple as that and the players will generate their own fun as long as the hand-holding is stopped.

really bad idea, the slightiest faction imbalance would just cascade as stopping people from doing quest you would stop the advancement of the faction new levee while the other side would get stronger and stronger.
you cant do rvr in regular open world, it has to be done in specific zones reserved only for it and shaped for its specific needs.

Again, this was suggested back in BETA 3.

You can capture and hold an enemy wardstone forcing players to group up and take it back. BUT - After a certain amount of time NPC guards spawn and try to take it back. The frequency of guard pops and difficultly increase over time and will eventually take back the Hub.

This would be for PvP server Rule sets only.

If the invaders leave the area, guards will take it back. If the invaders have the hub for more than 45 mins to an hour the guard level and respawn gets very difficult unless there is a large force holding it. This is workable and needed.

You would have a lot more people out in the open world with this mechanic.

    HOWEVER.

I would love this ideea if it involved more than just zerging a bunch of teenagers into the city.

Make it a large wpvp event requiring the control of all stones in the sorrounding area.

    For example.

The amount of guards in the capital is overpowering any mere 40 men raid but it can be lowered.

You must destroy the opposing faction's wardstones in the area with the capital, and build your own on its place, like the invasion npcs do. Once yours is up, some level 50 npcs spawn and guard it.

Each stone you build a foothold on, lowers the number of guards spawning in the capital. Have enough footholds in Freemarch/Silverwood and the guards will be very few in the capital city in that area.

In order to take back the city, the defenders will have to destroy the footholds.

If the attackers just go wanking in Sanctum/Meridian and pay no heed to defending their footholds, a smart party taking them back will cause the attackers to get overwhelmed with spawning guards while they are in the capital.
