Default instead of upping stats on pvp gear in 1.2

wouldn't it have been better to just make all expert and raid gear useless / banned in pvp

looks like we are going to get a baby eating game at level 50s where gear keeps getting better and better and new 50s just give up.

You know that the PvE folks will cry that it is not fair that they will have to grind two sets of gear then, right?

The same PvE folks who will look at the lack of Hit/Focus on PvP gear and tell somebody to grind up PvE gear.

    Still, just saying...

Why can't we? It was my understanding the only stat that doesnt work is valor. The only problem I couldl see is +hit.

Gear is not the issue in pvp, it's the high ranks moving up into the pvp souls.

    An example: Occultist's Robes

    PvE Version/PvP Version
    Armor: 390/390
    Int: 22/18
    Wis: 14/11
    End: 12/21
    Spell Crit: 12/17
    Spell Power: 10/0
    Valor: 0/31

What do those numbers work out to mean? (PvE/PvP)
Armor: 4.66% physical damage mitigation - both
    Int:
    - Spell Power: 2.2 dps/1.8 dps
    - Spell Crit: 0.83%/0.68%
    - Mana: 220/180
    Wis:
    - Spell Power: 1.4 dps/1.1 dps
    - Mp10: 4.67/3.67
    End: 108 health/189 health
    Spell Crit: 0.45%/0.64%
    Spell Power: 2 dps/0 dps
Valor: 0 dmg mitigation/0.796% dmg mitigation

How about an easier summary of those stats? (PvE/PvP)
Armor: 4.66% physical damage mitigation - both
    Spell Power: 5.6 dps/2.9 dps
    Spell Crit: 1.28%/1.32%
    Mana: 220/180
    Mp10: 4.67/3.67
    Health: 108/189
    Dmg Mitigation: 0/0.796%

What about the cost of these two items?

PvE version - 50 Plaques of Achievement
PvP version - Rank 4 and 48666 Favor (Rank 4 requires you have earned 270k total Prestige - 600 win/200 loss)

Course, 1.2 will change stats - Rank - etc, etc, etc... so this is just looking at it now.

That would be stupid. What about the people that like both to do both PvE and PvP? Nothing wrong with people wanting to play the full game rather than just one part of the other.
Even free cost too much now

I don't think that plan would work.

This would be the PvE guy that I was talking about.

So the PvPer can go into T2/Raids without any focus/hit on their gear? Um...k.

The PvPer needs the separate gear - the PvE person, will have to see with the 1.2 changes to the PvP soul and gear.

    Cool

What happens when the pve crowd exhaust the current raids, so a new tier is introduced to date their loot habit. do they up the pvp stats again? so that pvp gear is competitive?

eventually it will he massive grind if constant deaths in pvp once you hit 50 until you hit higher ranks.

better to make raid gear useless in pvp, then it doesn't matter how many raid tiers they add.

that is a single piece of gear , compare a complete set of armor/weapons and jewelry , how often will spells fizzle in pvp gear compared to pve gear because of focus.

There should not be 2 sets of gear ie pvp/pve there should be gear , period , some good some not so good.

Like it has been said, some people actually enjoy BOTH aspects of MMOs and would like to see the two meshed together instead of trying to create two different games that happen to share the same server.

there's nothing stopping you wearing that expert gear when you go and try raiding. It's not like it works both ways pvpers can't skip experts and jump straight into raiding with pvp gear.

What I'm worried about is a constant gear arms race as new raids are introduced and new pvp ranks are introduced. Eventually this will kill pvp as new 50s will just die on the spot and give up pvping. I've seen it happen in other games.

This is where you run into the issue of gear acquisition - the availability and player preference for play type.

Same gear piece - on average available in the same amount of time and with the same effort whether a person is doing PvE or PvP...one of the Holy Grails, so to speak.
