    Default Regulos Guide

first of all let me say english isnt my native language so excuse any errors made ;)
also this is my first boss-guide ever written

feel free to post/discuss/improve/correct mistakes, thats what guides are for

    Regulos

    General Information
Regulos in its current form is one of the few still challenging fights remaining. Because of its design is has a pretty tight enrage since you need to clear a phase in a given time. If you manage that phase you won't hit hard-enrage.
Also any player-death spawns an additional mob, which can easily lead to more deaths.
The fight lasts ~10 minutes and has 5 phases.
It actually differs from other endbosses where the last phase is the hardest one, like Crucia/Akylios, which makes it easier to progress.
His script is one of the more interactive ones, he won't use abilities in a specific order, it depends on your dps/managing of mechanics.
Death resist isnt required, neither on the tanks nor the raid. A decent amount of HPs are, a few mechanics can oneshot people below ~19k unbuffed.

    Setup:
The setup is pretty determined since you will need the DPS to achieve killing the 4 Minibosses in time and you will have to split up your raid in half but need some utility/healpower on both sides.
3 Tanks - they only need hitpoints/armor, its seriously the only thing helping, you can not block/deflect Regulos only tankattack Void Assault. I would recommend at least one roguetank for hp-increase.
Defiler, Purifier - Defiler is mandatory, Purifier helps below 70%.
2 Chloros - at least one with 8 Dominator for Reflective Command, 2 healers need grpdisspell.
1 Archon (preferably with Reflective Command
    1 Bard
11 DDs (2 of those need to be able to purge, at least 3 should be range DPS)

    Phase 1 Regulos 100%-70%

    Regulos 67.9 million hp
    • Void Assault: His basic and only tankattack.
It is a 5 second channel that deals physical damage four times in a very short window starting excactly in the middle of the channel.
It will always hit the player/players standing in front of him. Can and should be splitted on 2 tanks, so each will get 2 hits.
Each Void Assault also applies Mark of the Void to every person hit once.
    • Vanquish the Weak: A fist mechanic like Laethys'.
He will mark where his fists will land, if youre in the marked red area when the fists land you will get oneshotted. Depending on the kind of fists it actually has a larger hitradius.
Also deals percentual dmg to every player (determined by their hitpoints) who succesfully dodged the fists.
There are 4 different positions where his fists can land. The percentual hit can either be dealt at once or be splitted in 2 small hits hitting in a small window, depending on the kind of fists. Avoid moving back to early if its a "doublefist".
One of the animations hits directly in front of him, tanks have to be fast or they'll get oneshotted as well, they should always dodge towards the raid or everyone will get Glimpse the Abyss.
    • Crash of Souls: A 180 physical hit infront of him.
He marks everything in a 180 radius infront of him red and will hit there shortly after.
This mechanic can oneshot people with low hitpoints. Deals negligibly damage to tanks.
Can be dodged without getting Glimpse the Abyss. This requires some training but should be done.
You only need to just step out of the marked area for Crash of Souls, the red marked area and the actual hitting area are the same.
Make sure folks understand the difference between Crash of Souls and Vanquish the Weak since both have the same red ground marking.
    • Tentacle Storm: 12 second channel that spawns voids randomly beyond players for 3/4 of its duration.
This voids explode shortly after spawn dealing moderate death-damage to each person still inside and kicking them in a random direction.
The voids keep burning and dealing death-damage to players standing inside without the kick-effect for a short duration. The void-burn-effect deals negligibly damage to tanks.
Avoid getting kicked since you will die if you get kicked of the plattform or inside Regulos (Heart of Death).
    • Vortex of Agony: Weak meteor-mechanic.
Regulos will target 1 player and deal death-damage after 5 seconds. Can be splitted on more players.
Since you should be stacked anyways you can ignore this mechanic almost.
    • Eyes of Extermination: Channel that spawns 8 Eyes of Death.
Each Eye of Death increases his damage until you kill it. You can see how many Eyes of Death are left by looking at his buff.
4 Eyes spawn on his chest, 2 spawn on each arm. You can and should aoe 4 Eyes down, folks will need to try which aoe abilities actually hit since their hitbox is pretty weird. You can aoe from Regulos with most abilities.
Have dedicated single target DDs finishing the remaining 4 Eyes. Make sure everyone of those uses a targetmacro, since they are hard to target.
    • Impending Doom: Applies a debuff to 1-3 tanks randomly that will oneshot them after 4 seconds.
XY is engulfed by seething darkness. is the according screen message.
You can use grp-disspells or single disspell them.
It is a pretty easy mechanic, but if people have died it can hide behind dots from Fallen Warlock, Fallen Inquisitor and Fallen Reaver.
    • Seething Darkness: 50.000 heal-absorb cast randomly on one of the 3 tanks.
XY is engulfed by seething darkness. is the according screen message, XY is the player getting the debuff.
It absorbs 50% of the healing received. Just heal through it.
    • Mark of the Void: Stacks that increase damage taken by Regulos and decrease max-hitpoints.
Basicly the tank-swap-mechanic. Gets applied and refreshes to 28 seconds in the middle of every Void Assault to every person hit by it.
    • Heart of Death: Dot that gets applied if you run/get kicked into Regulos
Avoid. Tanks can actually survive this, there is no reason to get it tho.
    • Glimpse the Abyss: Debuff that increases ability costs, decreases damage and healing done and slows you, applied if you get behind Regulos.
The mechanic making sure you dont avoid every other mechanic by standing behind Regulos, lasts 5 seconds.
Make sure you stop everything until this debuff fades since it drains your mana very quickly, Rogues/Warriors should starve almost instantly anyways.
With a little bit of practise you can dodge every mechanic without ever getting this debuff, since it applies after a few seconds and doesnt apply excactly 180 behind Regulos.
You will get it if you run to portals.
    • Death's Apotheosis: The soft enrage starting at 70%/25%.
You need to kill all 4 Minibosses in 70 seconds or Regulos will oneshot your entire raid.

    Eye of Death 257.000 hp
    • Fel Glare: 4 second channel dealing moderate death-damage.
You basicly can ignore this one, they are tankable, but because of their hitbox tanks have a hard time tanking all. The damage usually gets healed by passive heals anyways.
Can create deaths shortly after Vanquish the Weak if an eye-dd instantly gets attacked by an eye.
Very rarely bug and deal some kind of combined channels which can hit DDs for up to 10k/second.

    Fallen Warlock 2.400.000 hp
    • Life Leech, Atrophy, Dark Touch, Haunting Pain, Death's Edict
    Fallen Inquisitor 2.700.000 hp
    • Sanction Heretic, Vex, Curse of Discord, Dark Water
    Fallen Nightblade 3.000.000 hp
    • Nightblade/Assasin
    • Should be purged to disable its weaponenchants.
    Fallen Reaver 3.300.000 hp
    • Soul Sickness, Necrotic Wounds

These spawn if a mage/cleric/rogue/warrior dies, you will have to ignore them and have the tank who currently isnt tanking Regulos take the adds.
The main concern are the dots those are applying, they can prevent you from disspelling Impending Doom and reflecting Hierarch Kosic.
Having more than 3 adds usually leads to a wipe pretty quickly.

    Tactic:
Have a tank pulling and running towards his side. Regulos should follow him. The second tank has to stay inside the tank who pulled so his first Void Assault gets splitted. It can help to pull with cooldowns because the first Void Assault sometimes bugs and the pulling-tank gets all 4 hits.
The third tank should position himself behind the two tanks currently tanking. The tank-swap now happens after 3 stacks of Mark of the Void with the third tank running in and spotting and the tank who started moving back.
After that the tank whose stacks ran out has to take Regulos from the tank with the highest stacks.
Make sure you have a synthesis-chloromancer on every tank currently tanking. Have your tanks calling with whom they switch.

The raid should move to Regulos side and stack. This way you only have to move a few steps to totally avoid Crash of Souls. I recommend you move to Regulos right side (see Video, we do it with Point to Point) since his Vanquish the Weak red markers animation can bug on his left side and you don't actually see where the fists will land. Also you are closer to the Phase 2 portals this way.

Keep disspelling Impending Doom and stay stacked to negate Vortex of Agony.

Practise avoiding Crash of Souls and Vanquish the Weak without getting the Glimpse the Abyss Debuff.

When Regulos starts casting Eyes of Extermination aoe down the first 4 Eyes of Death and have your dedicated range-dds finishing off the last 4 ones.

If he starts casting Tentacle Storm move backwards but keep stacked while doing so. If you reach the boarder move 2 meters towards the tanks and back infront towards Regulos.
If people skip the normal-running-route they can place voids that will kick your entire raid, also people being too slow will get kicked.
The tanks should do the same at their position. Now Regulos should be turned a few .
If he casts Crash of Souls directly afterwards you won't be able to dodge it since you still got burning voids to your side. Use a rogue HP-increase, have your archon power-draining and you should survive it even with eye-stacks.
After the burning voids are despawned turn Regulos in his prior position. The tanks should always be the first to move otherwise you will get Glimpse the Abyss.

Continue this until you reach 70%. You should not have more than 1 Eye-Spawn, otherwise you will have problems with the Phase 2 soft-enrage dps-wise.
Regulos will become immune at excactly 70% but will always finish his current ability. This ability won't deal any damage tho.
He does move/target the last tank he had aggro on afterwards and freezes facing the current position of the tank. This can become a problem if the tank is allready on his way to his portal, so try having your Portal 2 tank being the last one having aggro and let him stay facing the right direction. You want Glimpse the Abyss not being applied to players fighting on the bridge against Hierarch Kosic. (from where you have entered the fight)

    Phase 2 Minibosses

    Portal 1 Sicaron 4.100.000 hp - East
    • Gaze of Sicaron: Pulsating raid-death-dmg every 4 seconds.
Not much to say, just heal it.
    • Excruciating Hex: Hex on every member on that plattform.
      Grpdisspell.
    • Unholy Contract: A player gets marked and gets an aura afterwards, everyone inside that aura deals more damage.
Make sure the person with the contract stands directly behind Sicaron, so the tank gets the buff as well. You can and should stay inside if the aura turns red for around 2-3 seconds.
Afterwards the player has to move away from the raid because the contract will explode and stun everyone in range. The stun-range is further then the aura-radius displayed.
Also if you cross the contract with an old one everyone will wipe.
    • Moldering Decay: A breath that should only hit the tank.
      Deals very low damage.

Portal 2 Shambling Nightmare ??? hp - North
    • Spinal Wound: Snares and bleeds, only applied if attacked from behind.
      It is disspellable.

Portal 3 Dark Thane Molinar 1.900.000 hp - West
    • Horrifying Barrier: Reduces damage taken by 50% per add still alive.
    • Cursed Blows: Channel that deals pretty heavy aoe death-damage to everyone on the plattform.
You will need to heal this. It ticks 7 times for around 5000 on non-tanks.
    • Frightening Shout: AOE-fear.
Needs to be interruppted. You can break-free if the interruppt fails.
    • Runes of Pain: 4 second-cast, everyone still facing Dark Thane Molinar when the cast is finished will be oneshotted.
Dark Thane Molinar begins to conjure a runic curse. is the according screen message.
Only people currently on that plattform need to play this mechanic.

Portal 3 Deathborne Defiler 308.000 hp - West
    • needs to be tanked, does almost nothing, one of the adds you need to kill to disable Horrifying Barrier

Portal 3 Elder Shieldbearer 538.000 hp - West
    • Killing Field: Aura that deals very hard aoe-damage to anyone in melee-range.
This needs to be purged instantly. It can crit and even if it doesn't it will kill your melee-dps very fast.
He does not always cast it. Probably 1/5 times, its random when and if he applies it.

    Entrance Hierarch Kosic 3.500.000 hp
    • Abhorrent Grudge: Deals aoe-damage, needs to be reflected.
Reflect this ability to kill the small adds he has spawned before. If you have any Fallen Warlock, Fallen Inquisitor, Fallen Reaver up try to reflect as late as possible and pray that you will actually reflect Abhorrent Grudge and not something else.
He uses it every 22 seconds so you will not need to specc reduced cooldown on Reflective Command.
    • Skeletal Bolt: His basic spam-nuke.
    • Evocation of the Dead: Summons 7 small adds Ravenous Guardian, Ravenous Defiant, Cruel Appartion, that need to be tanked.
These are the ones you kill with reflecting Abhorrent Grudge.
    • Accursed Volley: Hard hitting spell, needs to be interruppted.

Entrance Ravenous Guardian, Ravenous Defiant, Cruel Appartion
    • Favor of the Hierarch: Explode if they die, deal very low dmg to your raid and decent dmg to Hierarch Kosic.

    Tactic:
First off all you will need to split up your raid to be able to manage every Portal and the Entrance. This phase will repeat itself at 25% and everyone who once entered a Portal cant fight the same boss again. Everyone can help at the entrance each time.
Each portal-group has to be able to do the other portal too at 25%.
I strongly recommend that every player practises the other side in this phase, if they know what to do on one side. Don't play down to 25% and let folks who used to run Portal 1 practise Portal 3.
I will explain the Entrance/Bridge-Zerg tactic which means you basicly split up your raid in 2 partys (Portal 1 Sicaron and Portal 3 Dark Thane Molinar) and everyone who is done with his portal helps at the Entrance/Bridge.
    Each party needs:
    • 1 Tank
    • 1 Chloro
    • 1 Player able to purge
    • 1 Player with Reflective Command
    • either the Bard or the Purifier to be able to handle Cursed Blows
    • put the Archon in the party without the Bard, so both have dps-support
    • split up the remaining DPS equally

    Important things in Phase Transition:
    • You will get the Debuff Glimpse the Abyss while moving towards your portal. Port and wait afterwards until the debuff expires.
    • Don't move after you have ported or you might add the Mobs.
    • Don't pull before the debuff expired on Tank+Healers.
    • Release your pet BEFORE you enter Portal 1 Sicaron.

Portal 2 Shambling Nightmare can be done by a solo tank.
After he enters his portal he just needs to kite Shambling Nightmare through the Plants on the floor, they will explode and deal ~300.000 damage each time.
Make sure you kite him in a proper way because the plants will respawn and you want him always running through Plants.
Other than that he only auto-attacks very low and uses Spinal Wound if you let him hit you in the back.
You can breakfree/rogue-pvp-tree-purge/disspell Spinal Wound, so you could adjust your specc.
Take absorb/healpots, use cooldowns and you should be fine.
Usually that player is the first one done with his mob, take the portal back down and wait infront ot the boss.
You need to spot Regulos shortly before Hierarch Kosic dies cause Regulos will instantly stop Death's Apotheosis and start attacking again.

Portal 1 Sicaron is pretty basic. It is like Sicaron used to be in Hammerhall.
Stack behind Sicaron, grpdisspell Excruciating Hex, stay inside with the Unholy Contract after it turned red for 2-3 seconds, place it somewhere afterwards and make sure the Tank gets the Buff as well. There is more space than needed.
Sicaron has annoying bugs so make sure that you release your pet before you enter the plattform and do not recast it. He can randomly attack Pets and that delays his Unholy Contract, which you need to get the DPS required.
Also he sometimes attacks old Contracts standing on the Plattform instead of the Tank, be very careful how to place your Unholy Contract Buff if that happens.
You should be done very fast, use the Portal and sprint towards Hierarch Kosic. Hierarch Kosic has a very large aggro-range, so make sure the Tank is in front, also Hierarch Kosic's second ability is always Abhorrent Grudge.
Wait if your Reflecter and/or Chloro still need to place a contract. You can place remaining contracts on the Regulos platform, just make sure you do not place them directly at the Portal's Exit if the 2nd group wants to do that as well. You can even use them for Hierarch Kosic DPS.

Portal 3 Dark Thane Molinar is the platform which usually takes longer.
The tank needs to tank all 3 mobs, he can tank them where they are. Interruppt Frightening Shout, turn around if he casts Runes of Pain, meleedps can sometimes stand directly behind Dark Thane Molinar, so they can keep DPSing on the adds meanwhile.
    Heal through Cursed Blows.
All DPS should focus Elder Shieldbearer, make sure you instantly purge Killing Field if it gets applied.
After that kill Deathborne Defiler and switch on Dark Thane Molinar.
After you are done use the Portal and sprint towards Hierarch Kosic and help dpsing, except the Tank. He should move infront of Regulos and start tanking with the Portal 2 Tank.
You can use the old Point to Point or just run the way. You will get Glimpse the Abyss.

Entrance Hierarch Kosic should be attacked by the Sicaron-party first.
Reflect every Abhorrent Grudge, interruppt Accursed Volley.
The addspawn Evocation of the Dead is time delayed, so make sure the tanks gets every add.
Single DPS him, the adds should die to reflects.
If you get Glimpse the Abyss while running towards him, really move onto the Bridge beside Hierarch Kosic and wait until it fades.

    Phase 3 Regulos 70%-25%

    Regulos 67.9 million hp
    • Regulos keeps all his Phase 1 Abilities.
    • Unholy Dominion: Regulos buffs one players hitpoints to 100.000 and deals hard death-damage on that player for 15 seconds, if that player dies everyone does as well.
Regulos imposes his will on XY. is the according screen message.
He continues using other abilities meanwhile.
This abilitiy can happen in Phase 1 if your DPS is low, handle it the same.
    • Spines of Death: Spawns 8 Death Spines.
He takes less damage for each Spine of Death. You can see how many Spines are left by looking at his buff.
The Spines spawn on his back and can not be aoed like Eyes. You will need to try for each specc how to effectivly dps them. They should be DPSd by everyone, either aoe or single target, since you cant dps Regulos anyways.
Use a target macro for these as well.

    Death Spine 720.000 hp
    • the Spines themself dont do anything.

    Tactic:
Play this phase excactly like you did Phase 1. You should also again move to his right side. Refresh your Point to Point if you use it.
The hardest part in Phase 3 happens directly at 70%.
Regulos will keep doing Void Assault which leads to very high stacks of Mark of the Void on your tanks that you need to handle.
There is a tight management of Cooldowns required if you do not want to lose a tank.
It is especially important to note that Vanquish the Weak deals percentual damage, you will have a tank with very high stacks when the first Vanquish the Weak hits. Percentual Cooldowns dont reduce Vanquish the Weak, only Absorbs help.
If a player gets targeted with Unholy Dominion use a Chloromancer Symbiosis and have your Defilers 61er talent + Purifier Cooldowns ready.
As soon as Spines of Death spawn have every DD switch on those, they are on his back. You will have Death Spine up and Eyes of Death spawning. Make sure you always prioritize Eyes over Spines. It is possible to AOE some if you target the correct one, depending on the specc you are running.
This phase continues until you reach 25%, if you have decent dps you will only have 1 Spines spawn, if you have two the phase just lasts longer.
Kill the second Spines like you did the first, do not under any circumstances leave Spines up before you enter 25%.
You won't hit enrage and after the first Void Assault Spam he will mix abilities again, so you will not have to deal with high tank stacks again.

    Phase 4 Minibosses

    Tactic:
Neither of the Minibosses got any new abilities. It is just folks playing the other side.
Remember that you need to swap the tank in the middle as well.

    Phase 5 Regulos 25%-0%

    Regulos 67.9 million hp
    • Reaving Oblivion: 8 second channel that deals damage and decreases max-hitpoints.
His tankattack, only on 1 tank.
    • Invoke Calamity:Meteor mechanic.
Targets a random player in the raid and shoots 3 meteors that hit shortly after each other.
      Heal through it.

    Tactic:
The last phase is very easy, so after you have succesfully finished Phase 2 and Phase 4 the hardest part is done.
Keep doing what you did in Phase 1 and Phase 3, he will only use Void Assault, Impending Doom and Seething Darkness until he reaches 20%, which should be pretty fast.
If he reaches 20% he will stop and Regulos himself will climb out of the head in a long animation.
Use that time to deal as much damage as possible.
Glimpse the Abyss will now apply at the sides as well, as soon as his arms come down.
Everyone needs to stack infront of the boss inside the tanks now. Don't run infront of him as soon as he reaches 20%. He can still be in a Void Assault that could hit you aswell.
Wait till he does nothing and the animation begins.
Petclasses need to resummon their pets or get them infront of the boss as well since Glimpse the Abyss can spread from pets to their owner.
He will now alternate between Reaving Oblivion and Invoke Calamity.
Tank-swap after every second Reaving Oblivion and have your Chloromancers going grpheal + puri absorbs to deal with Invoke Calamity.
If everyone is still alive it is almost impossible to die in this phase, if people are dead you are probably not in this phase. ;)

    Hey there, good writeup overall.

A couple of things that should be fixed: Void Assault is not four ticks; if it hits one tank at a time it is simply two ticks for much more damage. (not significant to change)

For 70%-25%, I think it should be noted to prioritize killing eyes over Spines (You may have stated this somewhere; it's quite a large guide and I may have missed it)

This guide will shave off a lot of time for progressing guilds though, thanks for taking time to write it.

Skimmed it. Noticed only one problem and that's that Void Assault only hits twice. It just hits super hard on a single tank (but totally survivable (we used to do it)).

Edit: Guess Ahov beat me to it.

actually took the information out of the combatlog with the 4 hits, maybe they get displayed as 1 large hit - i tank regulos in our alt-raid but never actually cared to check the number
if no tanks are left he will also kill 4 people with 1 void assault

very true with eyes before spines, with who do i have to sleep to get edit rights here? forgot that one

If that's the case (and I hate to go here) then you guys might be fighting a different Regulos than us.

I'm certain it's two hits on one tank, at least for NA.

Rumor mill is that they've stopped handing out most of the edit rights (Walsingham is no longer with Trion), but you might PM a random moderator or Elrar and see where you get referred.

They are displayed as two large hits actually. I don't know why four people die if it hits the raid, something might be coded incorrectly or as you said, we might be taking four hits and it's combining it into two.

For edit rights, PM a forum mod or report your post for edit rights...GL though, it can take a while.

Void Assault seems like a cone-cleave to me, cause when someone in raid overaggro at start of fight, 3 people always insta die.

Also, ACT logs shows that 2-3(depending how many is infront I guess) people get hit the same second every cast.

It calculates the target for each tick, so resulting deaths can be from 3-4 people potentially.

Example: 2 tanks standing in front of void assault + 1 dps, the first tick might hit both tanks, and the 2nd tick might hit tank + dps. Or, from an exact scenario when we were testing the split in damage: 3 tanks in front of void assault; first tick hits tank A and C, second tick hits tank B and C. It wasn't consistent enough in its selection to have the tanks near each other.

I think it's simply two hit, who spread the two on two target.

So if the two target who share the first attack die, the second attack who are almost instantly after hit two other target. So you have 4death, and not 2.

Yeah they can also be hit by Soul Drain if you're in a specific spot on the side, or you can cast targeted AoEs at them. This is hit-or-miss though, so I generally stick to ST.

The exception is when he's about to cast either type of arm slam, I will begin casting Soul Drain. If it fires off when he slams his arm, the spines are considered close enough to get hit.

Good guide, I am sure this will help out those guilds starting to progress on Regulos!

And as ahov/rr stated I am nearly 100% sure that it is 2 attacks just split between the two closest members to regulos (so if you are dpsing dont stand closer than the tanks are to regulos)
