That's simply not true. I do use an add-on, but I know at least one person better (a lot better) than me who does not. I'm also not sure why you're dropping that name to make an authoritative argument on the standard of player skill. There are a lot of things others can do that Shaeyl couldn't, I think.

3. Also, Lol at all the people that think using add-ons somehow diminishes a person from being a good player and not using them makes you better than anyone. What a joke of an argument. Some people don't use them because they just don't like them (obstructive, etc). But, reading a lot of these posts I get the distinctive whiff of neckbeards stroking their oddly-patched neck hair in an elitist fashion. It isn't sexy.

I can smell the "World First Maelforge" neckbeard a mile away

"Even" Shaeyl was an exploiter who "needed" to stack synergy crystals.

You can make the argument that some people prefer addons, but to say there is a need for them or your performance suffers is ignorant. You might need addons personally, but it's not a universal case.

6. I think the argument stems mostly from the group of people who fail at a raidwipe mechanic and then say "Oh my KBM wasn't working." Add ons are fine to use and have, and even make great players even better; but I will be honest and say that I don't like people who completely rely on them.

Because I don't know those people. I'm on my 2nd month of Rift, and go by the guides and videos I find. I'm not in a top guild, and only have one 38/28 guidmate to compare to. It'd be nice to know your friend's approach on maintaining those dots, but it's understandable if there are secrets to be kept. I was associated with one of the best guilds in Warhammer Online, and one of their DPS told me that he didn't use any add-ons for managing the dozen or so DoTs. Hard to believe when I don't know better. Maybe it's like some people were born public speaking; some were born scientists; and some were born with MMORPG intuition.

oh I forgot

Code:
Hellfire;1;T;player;1;T;F;F;Hellfire;none;0;1;F;F;0;0;Rift;Data/\UI\item_icons\rift_consumable_fire_03_a.dds;1222;523;144;144;3;1;****;CENTER;1;;1;1;1;30;T;F;CENTER;30;T;6;F;0
that should work

Yeah some people are just able to pay attention to a greater variety of things at a time. Most people use add-ons because 38/28 pushes most peoples' limits. I use 'em because I'd need a different UI setup for playing that spec than what I use for everything else. Screw that!

I know personally once I started using the block on Shaeyl's Pyrolock guide for 38/28 it made managing the spec a lot easier. Instead of a total priority system it breaks it down into 2 blocks essentially to keep track of with either 2s or 4s open ends on them which is the only time you actually have to make a decision between fireball, flamebolt procs, or CB instant proc. Although reading some posts from full time mages on it(my mage is only a fun alt to play around on, HK geared so not outstanding by any means)...it seems that block method isn't optimal for min/maxing the spec? Anyhow, regardless its a good guide especially if you don't have the spec fine tuned already and makes keeping track of the DoTs without Karuul pretty simple since you will have CD + SV in 1 block always and CD + SV + Defile + DT in another block always.

KBM isn't checking them by name. It's using some kind of ID value which I thought was the .Ability code, but it's not. Not sure how he's comparing to find out if you have hellfire actually, since I can't find where he references that ID value he assigns to each alert. Every other spell in that encounter he's checking by name.

And FYI, ACT can do more than parse a combat log - it has been used for years to provide audio and visual alerts of mechanics as well as timers for effects.

Your post is another example of someone uninformed expressing an opinion. You should be in politics or the clergy.
ACT may be able to, but simple/super meter don't, and ACT isn't an actual addon but rather a 3rd party program. You should stop debating and watch some maelforge videos.

Nevermind. It's not checking against something you can configure in Karuul. Karuul is only going to tell you that you have Hellfire. Not whether or not you have green or yellow.

That's how I started. Then actually doing those blocks made me realize that mechanics, procs, and lag happens, so the dot timers go out of sync. I stick to adjusting my rotation on-the-fly. Furthermore, I realized there's a different priority that works better for me, but it ends up breaking the blocks; and that's why I need to use Karuul to help me track the timers. I can attest to my way beating out much-more-geared DPS -- even when I sometimes greatly mess up what I press. There's the muscle memory and experience part, which I have down to a zero. Then there's the looking at timers part, which I need Karuul to help me with. Whatever works for you, works for you.

I will stop debating with you because it's impossible to argue with a man unencumbered by any facts.

Ahh damnit, that's a shame. Thanks for looking into it!
