Default Ember Conclave [Hardmode] Packmaster Tanking Aggro Reset Bug?

Right, so we managed to kill Ember Conclave Hardmode tonight, however we wiped many times on Second phase where we had to kill Packmaster. As i am main tanking him, and every now and then he resets aggro and goes right for the raid and we wipe.

Now I am not sure if this was intended as a "Mechanic", and I've also watched videos of other guilds kill it this way ( Witchlord, Packmaster, Emberlord), they had not come across this. This was completely RNG. When we came across this issue, we tried to keep tank swapping after the fear Knock back from Packmaster, however when one tank was Feard and the other just taunted it ( taunt on CD), Boss just went right for the raid.

We tried another way, with the free tank being in between the raid and the main tank and not switching after fear knockback, so the free tank can taunt it right after the aggro resets. When this happened, even when the other tank taunted and everything seemed fine, he once again reset right after the free tank taunted and wiped the raid.

Now if this mechanic is intended, it is very bad. Maybe it is a BUG so I'm not sure. Nevertheless the attempt we downed it he only reset once and the free tank managed to pick it up. With that being said, it was really anoying that we had to rely on RNG aggro resets. I'm pretty sure Trion wanted to avoid this with raiding, not sure.

    You guys got any ideas?

It is an intended mechanic that does not work correctly is my thoughts on it. But yhea the reset and how its "immune" to taunts sometimes is weird.

But what we got from it, When we tried packmaster last is that the first knockback fear he will reset aggro but the rest off them he will still be on the one with the most threat. U will take more dmg since he will most likely hit you from the back.

But the aggro reset is a good mechanic to the fight if it worked correctly.
    Just click it!

What was said above is pretty accurate.
After having wiped to this a couple of times ourselves I found, as the tank picking up packmaster in p2, that after he casts his first "Unstable Conflagration" - the tank gets knocked and the second he lands (and gets the conflagration debuff), he resets his aggro table. Only then should you taunt the boss. Do not taunt in the period before this. Right after that taunt just go nuts on threat generating abilities and no-one should ever be able to take aggro. Off-tank taunts it back when you get conflagrated and he receives your threat. Rince and repeat.

I have had my questions with this mechanic aswell, after putting the above to the test we've never had an issue with this again. Hope it helps

Well it may be a good mechanic for sure if we know when exactly the reset would happen, e.g. right after knockback or something.

Well this way seems really simple with only movement and crystal placement and dps check. I understand the other method but we started off with this and it works fine with this aggro reset rng bs.

Yea you can't taunt until he's already wiped aggro. It's happened to us a few times too.

I've been solo tanking this guy for our attempts and if I time my taunts while I'm mid-air after a knock back then I won't lose aggro. I think I've run across a random aggro drop at the beginning of phase 2, but that could have also been me just doing a bad job at keeping threat.

From what we experienced last week when we were doing the normal mode (Killing Ereetu->Packmaster->Witchlord) - it only seemed like he would reset aggro during the first unstable knockback, though he could reset it very randomly after that, and therefore we had the guy tanking Ereetu pick Packmaster at the first knockback. After that we just did a lot of tank swapping, and basically each time the Packmaster did the knockback, we would all tank swap (to clear Witchlords debuff etc.) so no matter if the Packmaster reset aggro, there would always be a taunt on him, so the feared tank doesn't get hit in the back, Packmaster goes to another tank ready to tank him, Witchlord guy can clear debuffs when the feared tank gets out of fear etc. etc. = all win (hope this made any sense).

On hardmode though, we figured we CBA to do that kind of swapping, so we just killed Packmaster first.

I really can't understand why people dont kill packmaster first it's so much easier plus melee can attack at melee range in the second phase.

I'm more curious to know if this is bugged. If I can hold aggro through flaring power and WG, why do I lose aggro immediately after he drops from the conflaged tank after my 3 seconds taunt wears off - during feedback when nobody is really taking actions.

For the life of me I can't understand this mechanic, but I was thinking it might be linked to damage taken from conflag.

Honestly, So much time is wasted to this mechanic, When if you kill Packmaster first, It's completely eliminated, The only thing with Keeping Witchlord up 2nd is you still get MC's and you have to stack on his back, but worth it when you're wiping to one mechanic that can so easily be Avoided.

    Just my opinion though.

We've had some odd aggro reset nonsense even outside of unstable (in phase 1). Something else going on here. Wondering if it may have something to do with MCed people doing something dumb to the tank.
