Default We Want You! (Upcoming 20-Man Raid Testing)

    Greetings!

We're looking for a few good men (and ladies) to take on a new mission, should you choose to accept it. No, we're not looking for Tom Cruise and his IMF buddies, but we are recruiting Ascended to test the next step in the evolution of raiding within RIFT.

Fear and trepidation shall run cold through your bones as you enter [EDIT] and walk the halls of [EDIT]. You and your guild will encounter the sheer terror of [TOP SECRET] and [CLASSIFIED] as they attempt to [EDIT] the [EDIT] on Telara. Prepare yourselves, Ascended, for [EDIT] will never be the same.

Those chosen will be guilds that are the most flexible in regards to time, as well as groups that will be able to adapt to the testing schedule of [EDIT] being canceled and changed at a moment's notice. Your guild must be 11/11 in Hammerknell, as the raid zone will be a step up in difficulty. There will be no exceptions for this round of testing.

Guilds participating on the test will need to meet the following criteria:
    • Currently be 11/11 in Hammerknell
    • Be able to participate at least two nights a week, 2 hours a night
    • Be composed of mature players who will be able to express frustrations, criticism, concerns, or suggestions in a productive and constructive manner
    • Have at least 20 skilled individuals who will be able to participate
    • Operate and able to give us access to a secure voice chat with your raid (we regularly use Mumble, Teamspeak, and Ventrilo), this allows us to observe your natual dialogue and interactions as you attempt encounters and facilitates more fluid feedback.
    • Most of your raid force is fluent in spoken English (sorry, but our devs need to be able to understand the feedback.)

Guild leaders (only), please post your information here in this thread. Please use the template below.

The best guilds don't always make the best testers. If you think you have what it takes, and your team can operate in an appropriate and professional manner, please feel free to post your guild's information. We will be taking a look at all applicants. And last but not least, please leave your drama llama at the hitching post. We really don't care if your main tank stole your girlfriend, or if your officers love to watch Glee.

This message will self-destruct in 10 seconds...

Current Progression: 11/11 HK finished 7th world.

Feedback that is 500 words or less on any Hammerknell encounter: Hammerknell as a whole was a very well designed instance. Akylios was probably the most fun I've had learning a demanding raid encounter in years. The fight pushes every single one of your members to the limits. It was a very interesting designed fight with an amazing concept.

Feedback that is 500 words or less on any Hammerknell encounter:

I was pretty pleased with most of the encounters in HK aside form the first month or so of bugs. The encounter length was quickly addressed as I felt the length offered nothing different from 2 min in or 8 min in for most fights. I would like to see more viable specs for clsses in encounters also. Pigeonhole-ing people to play certain specs for bosses makes the encounter very boring. I understand warriors don't have to go paragon for Akylios but lets be realistic here. The encounters upstairs were too easy compared to what it took to get there. Then when people got to Akylios the encounter difficulty was rediculous as opposed to the 2 previous bosses. Don't get me wrong here, I liked the Akylios encounter very much. I just would like to see the ability to use more than one spec and be just as viable. I believe the souls were the bread and butter of Rift in the early days with the ability to have multiple viable specs in raids and would like to see that back again. Currently it's just too cut and dry. I would love to be able to try multiple specs for the new encounters but before we can do that, the souls need to be equal or provide some sort of advanatage over another to use it. Being a warrior as my main there just is abslutely no variety in dps'ing as a warrior. Lets see some variety in ID!

Change is for the weak that must adapt.

Phase 1 is a great mix of mechanics.(ranging from having the necessary amount of members at ranged to reposition geysers, enough dps to burn adds while still managing to bring Jonaru's HP down, and dodging waves every 40 seconds.) It requires all members to be paying full attention, even a slight lapse in concentration could be unforgiving. The one qualm i have about this phase would have to be the stun from a mana pincers charge, its bring an RNG factor to the encounter and could cause a deaths based solely on RNG and not of the players fault. Challenging encounter from the get go and really defined how the rest of the encounter was going to pan out.

Phase 2 is a cake walk. it requires you to stack order to spread the damage of the suffocating orb, splitting dps to kill Stingers, Lashers and Apostles effectively and in a timely manner is about as hard as it gets. I would have to say this is the easiest phase in the entire encounter.

Phase 3 and 4 are very challengng, it requires a large amount of communication, there are so many jobs that need to be fulfilled by members that they could not at all times be focusing on every mechanic, thus the large amount of communication required. I really liked the way you intertwined the Tidal Waves from P1 and the Breathe from Akylios it really added to the dimension and took the difficulty to another level, especially when they overlapped. I also liked being able to control phase changes which in turn made the encounter a bit less overwhelming. All in all the Akylios encounter was by far the most exciting encounter i have ever personally done. It had the perfect mix of mechanics throughout each phase keeping it challenging and requiring everyone to be paying attention throughout. Great Job

When you say step up in difficulty, does that mean a little harder than HK, but same tier as HK, or, does it mean a tier higher than HK?

Huge ramifications ride on that distinction.

It could easily be both: different tier and higher difficulty.

I would think that would be the case. Same tier would be a joke

Feedback that is 500 words or less on any Hammerknell encounter:

Graphical Fidelity to convey information clearly:
Player's facility to negotiate mechanics should be targed at player skill, whether they have high-end machines with good fps should have low influence.
Akylios waves for example. First and most importantly when instant fail information is only available graphically like those waves, the waves have to be visually designed that they are much more important and visible than other graphics like flooding tide particles, which are irrelevant mechanically.
Akylios breath: the cone of breath both creates too much visual noise and obscures waves information, it also has very little relation to the actual areas covered. Parts of the melee hitbox are several meters away from any breath graphics and still receive breath damage.
Editing your camera setting in rift.cfg and making the file read only to prevent the game from constantly overwriting your wishes, isn't the best precedent to cope with bad visibility underneath the tentacles in melee.

    Graphical Accuracy:
Effects being inaccurate: Contracts being larger than their bubble graphics should (as they were) be retuned to be either accurate or have a little margin of error visually.
Necrotic essences breaking things like contract bubble visibility should be avoided.

    Special Roles:
Molinar and the mage tank is a great example of special roles.
Zamira and balcony duties is a great example of special roles.
Estrode is a excessive example of annoying special roles. There are far too few roles with the miserly 5 to support stealing 1 role from the entire raidforce.

    Highly Effective Encounters:
Sicaron's purge chain and the parking of contracts and how teamwork and good buff movement affecting raid dps.
Grugonim pre-nerfs, with the management of the much smaller ant buffs versus dps check, and the unambiguous feedback on movement that grug cast bar showed.

    Undertuned Encounters
Inquisitor Garau and Inwar both required 2-3 extra mechanics to tune them upto the level that the upstairs bosses should represent.

We’re looking forward to the next raidzone presenting challenges above HK, with some eye to increased graphical accuracy and feedback, good but not excessive use of specialist roles and several concurrent teams of duties within the raid to co-ordinate.
