Default Raid number limits - leftover guildies at raids

Since we progress in raiding my guild suffers about some simple problem. If more then 20 people want to raid, we need to pick some people and tell the others to stay back and cant join the raids. This hurts the community bad at the moment and some feel a demotivation not to be a part in the game.

So i would suggest to extend the numbers who can join the raid instance by a group but still have the encounters and related adds/mobs locked to 20 people. So its easier to swap in and out people and more can have fun. At least some who cant attend at raid are part of the community and can at least watch what happend. Not to be part of the comm while you need to stay out of an zone gives the player a bad feeling.

Note: I dont suggest to raise the raidnumbers for an encounter, just to let some guildies see what their friends do. So all could have be a bit more fun as community.

    Others think so also?

A spectator option for raids would be very cool and something that no other MMO has done. This would be totally controlled by the raid leader.

or do it like in eq2.. let master looter asign loot ot ppl that come in after the boss was killed

this way ppl on deck can still bid on loot.

No, people who take part in the fight are the only ones who should be allowed to recieve loot.

Vanguard actually had this exact feature until the level cap was raised. Was extremely helpful for swapping people in & out.

Big yes to spectator option for raids. But they have to work out the details like:
-max number of spectators allowed(in extream case the whole shard want to come watch some first down, lag would be an issue)
-area restrications (must be good enough to watch, but can't be too close to the fight)
-negative perform affecting factors (raid member mis-targeting spectators, distractions, ect)

NEVER to non raid member taking loot.

Ot let as many people want to come to the raid come to the raid, but then have the npc's you fight in the raid get stronger with the more people involved.

Institute some sort of sign up on your guild forum, make a post, ask peeps to reply, first 20 are in.

just because someone wasnt in the raid during a given fight when the boss is killed doesnt mean they dont deserve a chance at loot
nothing wrong with letting ppl be zoned in to loot something if needed, makes it a lot easier to sit people without people getting screwed over

To be fair unless you have a hardcore guild of players with 99%+ attendance you have to over-recruit. Or shortman raids.

    It kinda does.

How does someone "deserve" any reward? By doing the work.

But if you translate this philosophy into your professional life and are hiring I'm very interested in coming to not work for you for 30 000 per annum.

Yep, and the others are left behind, this doesnt solve the problem. The majority of players arent hardcore enough to get raid attendance around 100 %. As guild you always have to recruit more then you actually need because of real life things happen. Just looking for a feature to let the "leftovers" join the fun even when they cant attend (all encounter related mobs are locked to 20 people) and cant get loot. At least they can talk with others, blame them for noobish wiping or whatever. Actually they can follow via Teamspeak but when you dont see it, the fun goes pretty fast.

    Yep agreed.

We have to maintain around 30+ players who all can commit to 2 out of our 3 raid days a week. It's just a reality we all face with lives, jobs, families etc

So people sit out when everyone turns up, it's not really a big deal because everyone accepts it as part of any MMO we play but the spectator option is actually a pretty nifty idea.

The spectator option is a very nice idea.

On the subject of loot, I definitely think it should be assignable to people not on the raid. For all the reasons mentioned above it is impossible not to have reserves occasionally.
