Default Let's Go Out Today Winners!

Today marks the final announcement of the Let's Go Out Today contest, where the winners of each of the four categories are finally announced. This is a long post, so I'll apologize for the wall of text now.

First, however, I would like to thank those who helped me judge (no easy task), Jaedor@Greybriar and Akhor@Shatterbone, cross-shard and over three different time zones. Thank you so much for your help and your insights!

I would also like to thank Ellekat@Greybriar, for contributing to the prize pot. Thank you for your amazing generosity.

Mostly, however, I would like to thank the people that entered this contest, which was my first. The number of entries was surprising, the quality of the entries was amazing. A contest isn't much of a contest without people to compete, so a very hearty thank you to all those who submitted entries! This has been such a great experience I am looking forward to doing it again.

    The Winners

Starter Category: The Freemarch Lido, by Rufina@Faeblight.

Webster's defines a lido as a fashionable beach resort, and this dimension filled that bill. Attention to small detail was the deciding factor in the very competitive starter category.

At first glance, The Freemarch Lido is a quiet, unassuming dimension, with its pools, a pool float and small bath house where you can store your towels and belongings in safety. At first glance, many of the small details that make this dimension absolutely charming are lost, such as the water dispenser with cup, the stacked beach chairs behind the pool house, the detritus in the pool and the leaking roof. I dove off the diving board in the deep end, worked on my tan. All the Freemarch Lido was missing were some little kids to pee in the water.

Small Category: Midnight Carnival, by Sindoll@Greybriar (Lils)

One entry truly captured the whole concept of going out. The last time I saw the Midnight Carnival was pre-2.3, and the updates were incredible. Attention to detail won out here again as well, with controls for the rides, the illusion of a tunnel for the love boats, and an atmosphere that screamed at you to HAVE FUN. As always, Lils is a genius at morphing bodies and faces, to give animation to this dimension and add to the immersive experience. I know I spent a great deal of time trying to figure out how she made the bearded lady (I got as far as a bunch of butter churns and loaves of bread for boobs).

Medium Category: The Tempest Slums, by Taryth@Argent EU

The medium category was perhaps the most difficult of all the entries to judge, but here again, it was the details that won out. While no one would voluntarily choose to go to the slums, Taryth very vividly brought the feel of it to life. Alleys were cramped and a bit dark, the difference between the lower levels and the upper city presented a stark contrast. There were doors half-open to be able to peek in (and no two were the same), windows to peer through, shops, an open air market and a pub, all fleshed out. A particular favorite was the blacksmith's shop, with its forge.

Large Category: Mind the Gap, by Marlynielle@Argent EU

From the spawn point inside a stall in the men's room of the subway station, to the escalator to the pub, the church, the apartment buildings and kebab stand, Mind the Gap was incredible for its amazing detail, and the way the dimension made you feel as if you were really in the middle of a slice of London, and not on Shoreward Island. I lived in Europe for 5 years and never made it to any part of England, but on seeing this, I wished I had. Small details like lane markings in the street, the dumpster--with trash in it!--the small patch of road construction and the different types of graffiti really set this dimension apart.

Congratulations to all the winners in their respective categories, and thank you again to all the entrants. There were many wonderful, beautiful places to go out to and things to see. The creativity in the concepts people came up with ran the range from the flat out impressive (Rubey's Cathedral in the Sky) to the realistically funny (Radishing's There's Always a Queue).

    Grats to everyone!

Thank you Feendish. It was a great idea for a contest and prizes that everyone wants. I think I speak for everyone when I say how much we appreciate that you organized this and donated the prizes.

I visited all the entries myself and have to say I would not have wanted to pick, because everyone really did a great job.

Back to the drawing board for me, but, what fun it is.

Thank you to all who entered also, I really enjoy seeing what everyone built. Such diverse creativity, really impressive.

Congrats everyone! I don't envy the task it was to judge this one either. Thanks for hosting this for us Feendish!

Forgot and edit timer ran out long ago.

Thanks for inspiring the build that made me actually feel like dabbling in RP. I've always played on Faeblight and never RP'd. Yet I find myself in the Basilicini nearly every morning, pretending to replace candles, skim leaves out of the fountains, sweep up, and enjoying a serene moment.

Wow, thank you! Wonderful job, everyone.

I love all the builds and fun this contest has inspired. It definitely makes me want to run a contest of my own in the not too distant future. I'm amazed at all the wonderful entries.

Congratulations, all! And thank you again, Feendish for running this. Great job!

This was fun and challenging and I learned a great deal. I can't thank everyone who helped and participated enough. I believe that player sponsored competitions are by far the best and most rewarding. For those who entered and did not win, don't lose encouragement!

I'm still looking at the October time frame for my next one, but it may move to November/December depending on if anyone runs a Halloween/Fall Harvest theme.
