The idea is that you can calculate a score for an item out of the stats it will give you.
An item with 100ap and 100crit will be scored 140 ( 100*1 + 100*0.4) for 44/22.
It will score 153 ( 100*1 + 100*0.53) for 38/22/6.
153 being greather than 140, this item will be more desirable to the 38/22/6 warrior than it will be to the 44/22 guy.
GSB/DD/DH/RoS/RotP/HK conqueror, ultimate dungeon hero
Those numbers won't probably change that much, even considering the Frenzied Strike missing calculation. AP is more desirable than Crit, whatever the build.
I have to say I like this better... I belong to this kind of players who enjoy having a firm, strong damage base that can occasionally proc a big crunching number when you land a critical blow
To be fair, I myself think I will take the full AP road and see where it goes. I like the idea better. I am just a bit hesitant about the seal, as I am discarding crit on my Focus. So either I take the dex one to compensate and still have a nice crit boost for the future, or I say "screw this" and I begin the AP journey right now According to Ferboten calculations, it won't really matter what Seal we equip, as long as we don't equip an Intel one
But this topic is not about poor lil'me struggling to choose the proper seal. It's more for the warrior community to assemble and share each others insights on the whole AP vs Crit thing.
I do appreciate everyone's feedback, and I'm sure a lot of warriors will, too ! So, thank you all so far !
Long story short, at any time if u are below crit cap, trading 1 ap for 2 crit = still win for any spec except 44 para. that is all there is u need to know for 1.8.
PS: when i ment with win is that u be doing maybe 1 more dps in a infinite long parse.
So what does this mean for runing our gear? What would be the best runes to put on each piece of gear? Will there be ones that crit may not be the best?
Here are the runes I plan on using when the patch hits:
Head: Icewatch Slayer's
Shoulders: Blazing Deft
Chest: Blazing Deft
Gloves: Blazing Steadfast
Belt: Mathosian Pugilist's
Legs: Heroic Dragonslayer's
Feet: Order of the Eye's Sentinel
Seal: Incandescant Devastating Shard
2H: Blazing Rage
Ranged: Incandescant Devastating Shard
I don't know what all the fuss is with not having enough crit. I'll have 1118 crit raid buffed using my gear (which is mostly best in slot), and ID gear doesn't have much less crit. Plus, I only have 17 Dex from PAs.
You'll be fine if you use my weights.
Actually small correction
2H: Incandescent Devastating Rune
I'm still waiting for SOMETHING to drop a Blazing Wrathful rune.... The Radiant is good for moving the last few crit points around when you are hovering at cap though.
Okay, I'm gimping myself by running the Crushing Runeshard which nobody else accepted to run on my Kraken ( double hit combo, no native +crit, no enchanted +crit ), and I've been lazzy and put the water resist runes on my actual dps gear ( -23 dex ! ).
Let's add to the top of that that I'm still running a River of Souls necklace and a Master Caduceus bow. yeah, HK has been THAT kind after 5 or 6 months farming
Again, I agree, I'm bringing this on myself. Almost.
On the pts, with what seems to be the ID BiS gear and with my live focus, I noted a more than 100 crit loss. Almost 150, I think ( I don't have the gear right under my nose for comparison ). So... Yeah, when 30 is a concern on Live, expecting a 100/150 loss in the future calls for some preparations. And I guess you could understand better why I'd like to know if still struggling to maintain a cap I already find hard to get is really worth the headache.
If you have T3 gear, run your champion with 850 crit. It does fine. With 850 crit, your attack with a GI will spike above 1800. It's like 1816. That unlocks 7300 damage bladefuries without raid buff. Its power is fine in raid.
Ferboten's correct, I already posted parses in the marathon thread showing it. When you're looking at gear upgrades in ID, take the absolute value of crit and ap gained or lost. Divide them.
I calculated the price point at 5:3, or just under 2:1. If you gain 3 AP and lose 5 crit, take the upgrade. If you gain 5 crit and lose 3 AP, decline the upgrade. Use that ratio to determine what to upgrade and what to go after.
2:1 is probably the price point across all warriors, whereas 5:3 is more like for a champion who needs a tad more crit than a 44 paragon. 2:1 is a good rule. Easy. And it's functionally correct anyway. I just don't know if you will EVER see a crit piece come close to that itemization any more.
Do not go dex and crit hunting in 1.8 is the take-home point. It will do you no good. You will have to replace it eventually. You can parse extremely well under 900 crit.
Dunno how many times to say it, and only one more day left. Do not roll on Dex and crit items in ID. Roll Pure STR/AP.

The huge take-home point is that in 1.8 you can DEFINITELY focus on so much on crit that you hurt your DPS from lost AP, but you will be hard pressed, if it is even possible, to focus on so much AP that you hurt your DPS from lost crit.
As far as any gear on PTS goes right now, it is not possible to fall off the DPS curve from too much AP/STR focus. I tried. Again, I was at like 1820 running AP and under 850 crit. It parsed the same as a 1050 crit warrior. I ran the entire gamut from T2 raider to maxed T3. It is not possible to fall off the dps curve by focussing on STR/AP at any point, start to finish.
Whether you can fall off the DPS curve by focussing too muchon AP, with the total drop loot pool from ID, remains to be seen.
Do not believe people who will tell you you need to focus on different stats based on what your crit or AP levels are in 1.8. You can't screw a T3 warrior up that badly if you even belong in the tier.
I'm sure some are going to try to tell you what gear and runes you focus on is dependent on whether you have a GI or not. It's a ruse.
What level your AP and crit are in 1.8 are irrelevant. Not even the ratio of total AP and crit matter. Only the ratio of GAINS AND LOSSES between AP and crit matter.
What would be then the basic stat weight formula?
Thinking somewhere along the lines of;
Attack Power: 2
Physical Crit: 1
