fata13xcept posted the following on my blog:
I underlined some text above. It's not only that. Using any Burst ability including Fiery Burst procs the Enhanced Burst debuff on the target, which increases Elemental damage by 30% for 6 seconds @ 3 AtPts.I was testing Paragon’s SLI on one of my Riftblade/Paladin PvP test specs and found some intereting results with the lvl 40 38/13/2 spec (http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0c...sMGtdz.xxozo.b). Although the average damage increased across the board when beginning w/ SLI, the overall DPS suffered. The numbers shown here are average damage as processed by Rift Junkies’ parser.
Item w/ SLI w/o SLI
DPS 334 399
Rift Strike 327 323
Aggr Block 219 142
Burning Blood 109 88
Fiery Burst 191 143
Sweeping Strike 247 251
Shield Throw 249 157
Frost Strike 291 250
Searing Strike 294 232
Flamespear 289 261
Retaliation 353 218
I’m guessing the overall DPS loss is due to the fact that Fiery Burst isn’t kept up each time I get 3 AtPts because SLI has to be refreshed… and because the fight begins w/ SLI, not the Fiery Burst DoT. I suppose I should test this against a boss… a prolonged fight.
Have you tested this at 50?.. I am really wanting to weigh the value of Paragon vs Warlord here…
As such, there is a double-hit opportunity cost for using SLI over Fiery Burst:
1. the loss of damage from Fiery Burst
2. the loss of the Enhanced Burst debuff on the target
My impression is a lot of people who are advocating SLI in the rotation are missing those 2 points above.
The damage results back that up.
I'm not saying, especially for PVP, that SLI doesn't provide situational control for burst damage. Of course it does. But the tradeoff for +48% damage is not as clear as some people are saying.
