    Introduction

    THE ASSASSIN

    Masters of subtlety and subterfuge, an Assassin’s ability to walk in the shadows allows them to bypass obstacles and launch devastating surprise attacks. A rare few victims survive the initial assault, only to succumb to virulent poisons.

    Assassins are trained to meld with the shadows, bypassing defenses and launching potent surprise attacks with their poisoned blades.

    Assassins must choose their targets carefully, or wind up in desperate straits if they forfeit the element of surprise or attack a foe who can shrug off the venom from their blades.





    **DISCLAIMER**With the many soul combinations Rift has to offer, I feel Soul Guides should be restricted to a Specifc soul, rather than their Arch-Types. To minimize on the Loss of Important information and their potency. With that said: This guide is intended for the player utilizing the Assassin soul as their main Soul(IE 31+ points); although those using it as a secondary and tertiary will find the guide usefull as well.

    And, this thread is a Flame-Free Zone, please. If you notice an inconsistency in the data or feel there needs to be a change, simply post! This information is a collaboration of many Assassins, and it will take time to get it ALL accurate.

    *You Don't need a Guide telling you which Race to choose, or Whether Defiant or Guardian is better..with the removal of the +10 Racial Passives, players are able to decide which class they want to play based on Aesthetics and their Single Racial Ability. (Sorry Foxes <3)

    Patch Notes

    All notes that have a drastic effect on the Assassin class:


    2/21/2011-2/17/2011

    * Over-time effects (HoTs, DoTs) will recalculate their outcome for each tick (hit, crit, block, etc).

    * Fixed a tooltip bug with Poison Potency’s interaction with Saboteur Charges. It now reflects on the Charges’ tooltips for their increased damage.

    * Impale: Damage slightly reduced.

    * Slip Away: Removed requirement to be out of stealth to use this ability.

    * Lethal Poison: Debuff now also increases the critical hit chance of spells against the target.

    * Serrated Blades: Causes the target to bleed for 33-100% of your weapon’s damage over 6 seconds, down from 60-180%. Now only triggers from melee weapon critical attacks. It no longer triggers from ranged weapon critical attacks or attacks that require ‘Any Weapon’ and are not considered melee weapon attacks [Bard damage abilities, Saboteur Charges, Bombs, etc.]. Nightblade ranged attacks are considered melee weapon attacks and can trigger Serrated Blades.

    * Serpent Strike: Damage increased.

    * Advanced Flanking: Changed to increase the critical hit chance of Backstab by 3-6%. Increases the critical hit chance of Assassinate, Jagged Strike, and Paralyzing Strike by 25-50%.

    * Magnify Pain: Fixed a tooltip error.

    PVE Specifics

    i Popular Soul Matchups

    Single Target Rotation:

    This is a basic rotation designed around 99% of Assassin builds that include all of these abilities. It is a
    solid baseline to start with and the only changes that are made are with build specific abilities, primarily
    from the secondary tree.
    • First 5 CP
    o EW>JS>Punc>BT
    • Second 5 CP
    o BS>BS>BS>BS>BS>Impale>EW
    • Third 5 CP
    o BS>BS>BS>BS>BS>FB>EW
    • Use Slip Away
    • Fourth 5 CP
    o JS>Punc>FB>EW
    • At this point the rotation becomes a game of refreshing dots and buffs. Using CD’s, and not
    standing in fire. Be smart about your refreshes. If 2 are about to fall off at the same time,
    priority is this BT>Impale>FB. If the next thing to fall off has less than 5 seconds, do NOT refresh
    it right away. Save your Energy and wait until just after the bleed/buff falls off. Then continue
    rotation.

    PVP Specifics

    i Popular Soul Matchups
    With the endless decisions in the formulation of a Soul Tree, it will be increasing hard to pin-point "cookie-cutter" builds. Yes, some builds do show greater numbers and will do more damage, but nonetheless every battle is situational.

    **disclaimer** nearly every build available can have their tertiary soul switched out and still remain effective by their definition.
    "The Big Guns" - A build all about the 1-2, left-right. Solid combo builders with heavy finishers. This build is based around the Assassin that wants to get up in your face and deal some big numbers.
    "Doty" - Very effective against heavily armored classes and kiters.(ie - clerics) with as much utility as possible this Assassin build focuses on DoT's instead of solely critical damage.

    Tips and Tricks


    This will be a Dumping Ground for any Tip, large or small to assist the Assassins of Telara on getting the upper hand.

    • Having Trouble Sneaking up on an enemy? I've made a macro to have my Assassin Lie Down (/laydown) so that when that when I am near objects or rough terrain, I am able to blend in better and lower their enemies reaction time.
    • Spam Elusiveness!
    • Ranged Attacks - Don't forget you have them, make sure when an enemy is kiting, you lay some damage down from afar. There is nothing worse than somebody getting away from you with <10%HP
    • Expose Weakness - Make sure you always have this up on your target.
    • Malicious Strike is invaluable for PVP, don't let them get away!
    • Watch your Cooldowns, like a hawk!
