Default Why use Smoldering Blades > Hellfire Blades?

Why? Hellfire boosts your damage by 5% and doesn't take forever to stack on something to have an effect, I suppose if you're not pvping smoldering would be better than fell blades, but never hellfire?

I'm new to Rift so please take that into consideration.

I have abilities that let me lock down critters for a while. I've used them mid-fight to get some breathing room. If I have a DOT on one and I try it - the damage breaks the effect.

So having smoldering working isn't always my best option depending on the situation.

Again, I am new to the game but that's my take on them. If I figure I may need a breath mid-fight, I'll click it off. Otherwise - it's a nice option to use.

Personally, I use Hellfire becuase it is a constant 20% chance of x amount of damage while Smoldering is a 20% chance of x amount of damage of a y amount of time.
This is for PvP of course
