1% damage and being able to use Break Free at least once per boss > %3 AP.

The cross over point for AP% and % damage was ~1100 AP when I test it last (about 1 month ago). I do not have the paper with the math at this point, but I test this by doing the following:

    1. Get the Shadowfire Greater Sourcestone.
    2. Cast quickshot with no buffs and record the crit damage.
    3. Cast Shadow and then immediately click the shadow fire buff to turn of off. The 100 AP buff is seperate and will remain on.
    4. Cast quickshot and record the crit damage.

You know can clearly say how much 100AP = how much damage. I.E. 100 AP Made your quickshot go form 600->620 so 100 AP is 3% damage. Note: these numbers are not actual numbers just an example.

I always preferred 51/15 because of the flexibility having a 0pt gives. You can get break free, a snare, or a blink and I've used all of them for different raid encounters.

1% damage and the extra utility of an open 0-point soul slot >>>>> 3% AP.

You can get your stats to a point where, mathematically, 3% AP edges out 1% damage. But the difference is not going to make or break your raid, and being able to freely choose between a teleport (RS), a ground snare (SAB) and a Break Free (INF) is going to help out your raid more than doing slightly more damage.

The difference in damage is pretty minimal unless your gear is at one extreme or the other. personally, I prefer having the 0-point soul free to swap in various abilities depending on what's going on.

Same philosophy with my bard spec, I use 51 Bard/15 Blade Dancer so I can zero soul in things more suited to the encounter.

Having instant access to SideSteps, Adhesive Bomb, Shadow Shift or Break Free all have plenty of advantages.

Shadowfire does not increase EM dmg.
    Headshot does increase EM dmg.

    Max Swift Shot with 15Rng = 1143
    Max Shadowfire with 15Rng = 2248
    Max Head Shot with 15Rng = 2857
    Max EM with 15Rng = 745

    Max Shadowfire with 1RS = 2259
    Max Head Shot with 1RS = 2873
    Max EM with 1RS = 745
When you have a lot of AP (I've gotten more since then), 14Rng/1RS will outparse 15Rng.
As others have said, you lose utility by not having a zero point.
