Default Assassin Poisons Hit Hard with NightBlade

With all the changes to Rogues on the PTS, and I'm sure they will be tweaked, I wanted to play with some of the details we're seeing. Baneful touch was probably the most interesting change for assassins, as it's a huge increase to poison damage, which makes the two poison talents, which were upgraded, much more potent.

This does one thing at least, it makes Poison Malice actually a decent 2m cooldown. So it motivated me to find out how to maximize Poison Damage to see how it performs and to see if a viable spec can be made from it.

Prior to these changes, you could play around with weapon enchant buffs etc. and it was fun but you couldn't build a viable build around it. Now I think you might be able to, at least partially. Since both Assassin and Nightblade both have weapon enchant enhacements, lets see how they effect one another.

This will bring you through the progression of how I used talents. Poisons do the same damage no matter what, so there is no range to calculate from. The only buff that is up is Cruel Vengence that increases damage by 10% as it has a 100% uptime. The number start off with full 32pt Assassin, specced already so you have Baneful and Poison Mastery.

I want to take in numbers before and after Baneful and Poison Mastery, but I did not. Next time.

I haven't had to time to do the maths, but here's the data for everyone to see, figured I'd toss it out there before I start number crunching. I just don't have access to the PTS right now, but my motivation is to find out how all of the buffs are layered. I'm playing around with the math right now.

In any case we can see that with full buffed HR and Poison Malice running, both poisons are hitting for 342 and 302 damage each. That's not bad at all. Is it enough to base a spec around? Probably not, but I thought the numbers were interesting.

Things to test: The effects of these numbers on Leeching poison coupled with the Riftstalker buff that increases healing done to you by 6%.

    Constant Buffs
    Base AP: 781
    Baneful Touch: +20% Damage
    Poison Mastery: +50% AP Damage
    Cruel Vengence: +10% Damage

    V = Virulent Poison
    L = Lethal Poison

    The spec is 32A/26NB/8RS

Unless specified, the numbers will be displayed first without then with Poison Malice (+100% damage)

    32/0/0
    V 157 266
    L 1135 229

323/0/1,2,3,4,5 -> Each line is +1pt RS for increase AP %
    1% - 804AP
    V 159 270
    L 138 235

    2% - 827 AP
    V 162
    L 140

    3% - 851 AP
    V 164
    L 1442

    4% - 874 AP
    V 167
    L 145

    5% 898 AP
    V 169 286
    L 147 249

Everything from here on out has a base of 898 AP

Now in NB going through 1-3/3 Unstable State 3% Non-Phys damage per rank up to 9%

    3%
    V 172
    L 150

    6%
    V 176
    L 153

    9%
    V 175 296
    L 156 258

Then Fire and Death Attunement +1% damage per rank up through 3/3

    1%
    V 181
    L 157
    2%
    V 182
    L 158
    3%
    V 183
    L 159

Next is Heat Retention, this is now measured with 1-5 Stacks, 2% nonphys damage per stack. One each line is stack 1-5

    V 185 188 190 192 195
    L 161 163 166 168 170

Then with Enhanced Weapon Enchantment +10% damage to weapon enchants per rank. This is with no Heat Retention
    Rank 1 and Rank 2
    V: 200 218
    L: 175 190

Now with EWE and HR of each stack(1-5)
    V 220 223 225 227 230
    L 192 194 196 198 200

Then with full NB and Poison Malace, still same base 898 AP from passive RS:
    V 342
    L 302

    Enjoy.

    Very nice post, thanks!

    9%
    V 175 296
    L 156 258

Wierd result. Moved up appropriately with the first and 2nd rank, but dropped a point with the 3rd rank? Wonder if Unstable State 3/3 is bugged; I've never tested for that.

Hmm, on 2nd glance, the Leeching poison increases with 3/3 Unstable, but the Virulent doesn't. A typo?

That's probably a typo and I copied the numbers down wrong. I don't have my notes with me since they're at home. The damage is probably 180 as everything was increasing linearly and I never observed any odd behavior in the numbers.

I was in HK last night when I copied the numbers into a forum post. :/

Great thread! I love seeing some testing done and done well. Usually the forums are full of posts saying cryptic things (because they're talking out their ***) or people just make stuff up. Great to see a more in depth look at poisons.

Since the new MM abilities are enchantments, anyone test to see if nightblade effects those as well?
