With all the changes coming in 1.4, I've been covering them on my blog for the past couple weeks, but I wanted to detail them here as well. You can get more depth, images and analysis on my blog (and if you were reading my blog, you would have seen them already!). Read on for the lowdown:
While Sabdancer remains the undisputed king of DPS, the buff to Dusk to Dawn now brings Nightblade into DPS contention, although NB continues to shine in the PvP realm. Assassin gets a nice boost to Final Blow damage, and Coda of Restoration now works better.
Nightblade - Dusk to Dawn
This ability now deals damage correctly even if the target is immune to root. In addition, casting Dusk to Dawn now gives you a 1 minute buff called Nightrage, which increase Flame Thrust and Blazing Strike damage by 40%.
Assassin - Final Blow
The Physical Trauma talent now increases the damage of Final Blow by 30% when Impale is active (up from 8%). This is a pretty large boost to Final Blow overall.
Bard - Code of Restoration
This ability now scales with Attack Power (previously it did not) which should increase its healing by 20% or more.
In 1.4 there is a hard cap placed on Crit of 1187 Crit Rating. This includes any buffs, talents and abilities that increase your crit rating, but does not include abilities or talents that increase your crit percentage. This means Ambidextrous and Anthem of Power count toward the cap, but Ruthlessness and Motif of Focus don't. If you go over the cap, the amount of crit rating for 1% crit increases from 26 to 132, a 5x increase. Gross.
These changes mean you'll probably want to gear your source core up with AP essences. Here are the top 7 AP essences, ranked in order of their power:
- Flowing River - 20 Inscribed Sourcestones (Mercurial Savants)
- Woodland Hunt - 20 Inscribed Sourcestones (Students of the Vale)
- Rushing River - 20 Inscribed Sourcestones (Mercurial Savants)
- Grave Rites - 20 Inscribed Sourcestones (Grim Disciples)
- Necrotic Rites - 20 Inscribed Sourcestones (Grim Disciples)
- Shade Slice - Drop from Death Raid Rift
- Final Cut - Drop from Death Raid Rift
New Crafted Gear for Rogues
Deathbringer Battlegear (4 piece set) (image)
This is a Raid Tier 1 quality set of gear that is comprised of a dagger, ring, chest and shoulders. It is very expensive to craft but (with augments and synergy bonuses) can meet or exceed gear from RoS and Greenscale and help bridge the gap into Hammerknell. (all pieces shown here)
Right now, fast weapons benefit much more from whetstones than slow weapons. This makes daggers far superior to maces/axes for raiding and better than swords as well. In 1.4, whetstones will add DPS instead of flat damage, so all weapons will benefit equally.
Right now, Spotter's Order boosts all attacks to a target by a fixed amount. Because of this, fast attack speed and dots do more damage than slow, powerful attacks. In 1.4, Spotter's will add about 150 DPS for every member of the raid who is attacking the target, so dual wield, fast attack speed, and dots won't get extra benefit.
The bottom line is that weapon speed is no longer a concern for DPS rogues.
New Instance: Drowned Halls
This new 10-man instance is slightly easier than Gilded Prophecy and has a wide array of items, but more importantly drops 12 Marks of Ascension. This brings the total Marks you can acquire in a week to 56, by clearing both 10-mans and T1 Raids.
New PvP Essences, Synergy Crystals and Runes (image)
The Synergy Crystals for the PvP set offer the following bonuses:
Rank 3: 250 HP, 75 AP
Rank 5: 375 HP, 125 AP
Rank 7: 500 HP, 200 AP
Three new epic PvP essences offer very nice stats along with 33 valor each. (image)
This will make PvP gear better than Raid Tier 1 for raiding until Hammerknell set bonuses come into play. Of course, if you have a few epic Hammerknell pieces, they will be better than PvP gear for PvP. Go figure.
The new PvP rune goes on your boots and gives 11 dex and 8 endurance, making it the best boot rune and the only boot rune that increases your damage.
1.4 looks to be bringing some big and pretty cool changes. I'm lookin forward to it.
