    Default Unusual riftstalker build

Been leveling as a mix of saboteur and riftstalker, and recently did some tanking during an invasion and was wanting to find out more about how riftstalker works. Have read the other threads on Riftstalker tanking, and noticed complaints about initial threat/initial buffs and AoE threat.

And with playing as saboteur a lot, I had an odd build idea hit me, and wondering if it would work for tanking, but I don't have much experience with riftstalker tanking yet to make a good decision on if it would work or not.

The build would be : http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...0z.xIt0uRzozkR

There are some unspent points, as undecided between getting false blade, or the extra 6% dmg reduction from ranger, or picking up the last point in demolition specialist, and carpet bombing, with the leftovers spent picking up extra dmg reduce from ranger.

There is also some other points that could change. The ones I see as needed from saboteur are silent setup, time bomb, annihilation bomb, and demolition specialist.

How a pull would start would be blast or spike charges on your first target, for initial 5 combo points, time bomb on appropriate mob(s). Guarded steel followed by annihilation bomb on first mob. Then into a more normal riftstalker rotation. And can use the other bombs to help with AoE, the worst part about the bombs is they don't build combo points.

Some things that made this look real interesting to me is the potential kiting ability from adhesive bomb, caltrop charge, and the riftstalkers plane shifting, and the how incriminate would work with the delayed burst of saboteur, the extra threat from riftstalker, and planar strike to help another tank establish agro if needed.

as a main tank for my guild, i can tell you that youre heading towards suicide.

    1) you lose tons of dmg reduction from RS and Ranger.
    2) If you have to set up any charge while you tank, most probably you will lose aggro, totally opposite from what your starting point is.
    3) Survivability is more impt in a raid tank.
    4) Threat is generally not an issue with Raid Boss rights.

That's a hell of a lot of mitigation and HP to pass up on just for the sake of an upfront damage spike and being able to get CPs up before a pull. Charges are going to be more or less unuseable mid-fight as you will almost certainly lose aggro if you do nothing for five GCDs, so you're losing loads of passive buffs and things which are always on in favour of something that might only be useful for the first three seconds of a fight.

As I said at the start, I did not have enough experience with tanking as riftstalker to know if it would work or not. But was an idea that hit me after some impromptu tanking with a leveling build with the two. And was looking to get feedback from people more experienced.

Once a fight starts, would not be using the charges from sabotuer, but the bombs would be used during AoE pulls. About the only time mid fight I would even consider using charges, is if you were kiting an enemy that was not being dpsed. As to lots of abilities not being used, that seems to happen with a number of builds for any class.

With looking more indepth at the other riftstalker builds,in particular the 36 rift/22blade/8bard one in this post: http://forums.riftgame.com/showthrea...-Mechanics-2.0
Does the gain of 6% parry, and energy per finisher offset the mitigation lost through dropping down the points in riftstalker? Not including False blade, could pick it up easily even with the build idea I had. Also from the same thread, does the 10% health and 3%miss/anti-crit from Bard make that much of a difference, as does it outweigh 5% health and 6% extra damage reduction from ranger? As each build included the 10% health from bard, and then the miss/anti-crit instead of the lower health from ranger and the % dmg reduction.

Just trying to understand riftstalker better, as has a rather fun and active tanking style. As the idea I had seemed good in theory, but theory does not always match up with reality.
