    Default Attack power scaling tests

Method: 0/0/0 spec. Equip full gear. Savage strike test for 10 minutes with help from AHK. Watch some TV. Remove some AP. Record. Repeat.

    Data:
    373 AP: http://i.imgur.com/jlh6U.jpg
    332 AP: http://i.imgur.com/s30aQ.jpg
    296 AP: http://i.imgur.com/Y585e.jpg
    258 AP: http://i.imgur.com/uY3bK.jpg
    202 AP: http://i.imgur.com/SjfMe.jpg
    121 AP: http://i.imgur.com/39Ice.jpg

dropbox link to excel of that. page 2 of that is my weapon damage test, if anyone read my old posting somewhere buried in the rogue forums...

Analysis: AP sucks, thats all there is to it. I can do nearly same amount of damage naked compared to my t2 gear because of the scaling. Given constant spec of course.

So... 400 Atkpower would increase the basedamage of skills by 40.

So my epic chest increases my dmg by 1-3.

Seems like 400 AP just increase overall damage by 40, but is probably mitigated by armor.

Savage strike is 77-80 and I was using 29.2 weapons, so thats base damage of 110, probably my minimum damage.

If you mouse over what attack power does, it says for every 10 AP, your DPS goes up by 1. So 400 AP means an increase of 40 DPS. Yes it totally sucks.

Its hard to say since your DPS for your 202 and 258 AP are lower then 121 but basically your 121 has a DPS of 150, so 373 - 121 = 252 AP difference. 252 AP is a 25 DPS increase which is what your 373 parse says at 175 DPS

Factor in crit rate, and you'll see the AP to damage is very linear (see excel)

your tests are attack power and crit. not only attack power. you can't really tell how much dmg ist from ap and how much from crit.

If crit rate is known to be a fixed rate (50%), and we know the % of our average damage doing crits, then we can just divide our average damage by our adjusted crit %. (see excel sheet)

    Default What about...

Thanks for this, there are those skills where the tooltip says this skill receives 50% or 100% extra damage from Attack Power, I'd imagine these skills would benefit a lot more than a regular "savage strike" spam.

    What do you guys think?

It should really be a percent of base damage, not a flat addition. I'm not sure what trion can do without immediately breaking some classes. Everybody says rogues need help, but Nightblades can push 1000 dps in raids and I'm sure trion knows that. I expect it to be a long time before they fix AP scaling, and when they do I'm going to guess that it will involve dramatically boosting the AP on items, rather than changing how the scaling works.

Let me first start off by saying, Thank you, for taking the time to parse this information.
However from what I've seen, different souls scale better/worse to attack power, due to abilities that specifically get a boost to it, if you could create a list of classes (ex. Better->worse) I'm sure it would be incredibly helpful(not that this isn't helpful).
Retired due to lack of PVP content and boring/repetitive game mechanics.

    Thanks for the info.

It's the final test, Crit > AP. Actually everything > AP.

Yes, I am curious on this too. I plan to, tomorrow if possible, to spec into backstab and rerun the exact test, using the exact pieces of equipment, then comparing it with SS. As far as I know, BS is the only ability that has +50% AP and can be spammed. If there are any that I can get without speccing far into a tree (so I can get as close to 0/0/0 as possible), let me know and I can run that too.
