Default Ranged PvP spec (not sab)

Hey, I'm starting to get tired of being steamrolled in melee, decided to mess around with the ranger/marksman trees a bit and see what I could come up with. I noticed that there's not a whole lot of threads on this topic, let me know what you guys think!

http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...zhudR.z.VGo0ux - lots of "get aways" and whatnot. Was thinking about taking the 1 point in dext and throwing it into Rain of Arrows-another AoE, why not??

http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...RqdAudR..VGo0u - full 51 point in marksman for sniper's pedestal. Not quite sure if it's worth it-+20% damage bonus upgrade from marksman's pedestal seems like it'd be amazing. But you have to stand still to get anything from it.

Quick question as well-do the "regular" ranger pets level up to 50 with you? Or do you HAVE to get the greater ones to lvl them up?

Thanks for the thoughts/comments, and feel free to post any other builds you can think of!

Rain of Arrows is not so great, imo, I mean yeah it's AoE damage, but because it's channel you have to stand there to get any decent dps out of it, and the majority of the time you don't want to stand there. I much prefer Trick Shot, which is on the move AoE, plus with Improved Trick Shot you can build combo points and really nail them with your AoE finisher Concussive Blast.

Pets are handy in PvE until they can't hold aggro against your dps anymore. Admittedly I haven't put any points into beefing mine up, but I have the greaters and even they can't hold aggro from me. The only time it's useful higher up is if you have multiple PvE mobs on you, sick the pet on one and kill the other, but honestly I pretty much quit using my pets around lvl 30-ish.

I find pets pretty much useless in PvP, best you can hope for is that they have to tab target through a bunch of pets to get to players, but they can't really take the damage for that to be much of an advantage. Personally I use enemy pets to heal my group via Bard, so I won't give the enemies bard's the same advantage...

I think you'll want a melee soul though, MM has a few melee range shots, but that won't cut it imo; you can't kite when your stunned and far too many can charge/teleport up on you. Bladedancer gives some nice defensive buffs for very few soul points and Riftstalker gives nice survivability as well as teleport relatively cheap.

Are you dead set on a MM/RNG/SAB setup? I've been having the same problem making a decent PvP Ranged (non SAB) setup. (orig topic http://forums.riftgame.com/showthrea...=1#post1659184)

Here are some ideas for 50 PvP with MM mains:

    MM/INF/RS (lvl 50)
    32/21/13 - http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...0M0c0V0z.V0xok
    40/21/5 - http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...R.xx0M0c0V0z.V

    MM/INF/BD (lvl 50)
    35-21-10 - http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...xx0M0c0V0z.thz
    40-21-5 - http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...R.xx0M0c0V0z.x

    MM/INF/RNG (lvl 50)
    37-21-8 - http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...xx0M0c0V0z.VMo

    MM/INF/SIN (lvl 50)
    37-21-8 - http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...xx0M0c0V0z.VMo
    40-21-5 - http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M....xx0M0c0V0z.0V

    Problems with specs:

    MM/INF/RNG (lvl 50) <--- No HP Boost
    MM/INF/SAB (lvl 50) <--- No HP Boost
MM/INF/SIN (lvl 50) <--- No HP boost, No Snare
MM/INF/BD (lvl 50) <--- No DMG Boost, No Snare
    MM/INF/RS (lvl 50) <--- No Snare

I've also begun to explore not taking the Bonus AOE/Strafe in MM and checking our going higher in a 2nd tree.

Okay so I got your links to work-any reason you have Infiltrator in all of them? It almost seems to me like it'd be better to get sab for the aoe slow and the 5 point 15% dext. The only really beneficial thing that infiltrator has (it seems like) is the pvp "trinket" and the armor pen. But the armor pen would be really effing nice...I'll prolly end up going http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M....xx0M0c0V0z.0V once i get ranked up high enough.

Until then it'll prolly look like http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...VudR.x.VGo0uxz

    Thanks for the input!

INf for the "trinket", the poison, the player dmg/crit

You deff need a slow, i was onyl looking at Ranger/Sab slows before but a guy in ym thread is main NB and it has a nice slow too.

Right now im 5 into Sab for the dex and slow... but looking at the higher MM talents there not a lot good there, strafe is good but the rest is mostly more for AoE which wont really help u burst down a target.

Ive started to look into NB/MM/INF going all ranged of course jsut NB for buffs http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...VhtzG0gRoo.VVb

also idk why other links not working for u =-(

    ------------------------------

Soo 40-21-5 is what a lot of my specs revolve around for retreat. I like 5 for the 5 not sin for the snare though. heres a compare of 40-21-5 with your spec vs the one im testing for NB/MM/INF

    (32NB/22MM/12INF): http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...x0M.VhtzG0gRoo

    (40MM/21INF/5SIN): http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M....xx0M0c0V0z.0V

    With NB main you lose:
    MM:
    -Crossfire (aoe)
    -Collateral (aoe booster)
    -Extrication (cooldown booster)
    -Quick Reload (cooldown reset)
    -Strafe (CB Gen)
    -Bulls Eye (next skill Crit)
    -Retreat (teleport)
    -Master Archer (air dmg bonus)
    SAB:
    -Ruth (5% crit)
    -Stealth (stealth)
    -VPoison (wep enchant poison)
    INF:
    -Ambush (3 summon attckers)
    -Camo (stealth)
    -CStrike (Attack prw on dodge)
    -FIntent (2% dmg to players)
    -Anathema (-50% heals to target)

    But you gain:
    NB:
-BF (15% dmg to CP gen skills)
    -CDG (15% dmg to finishers)
    -TF (Snare)
    -US (9% more magic dmg)
    -MS (5% more dmg)
    -FDA (3% more dmg)
-HR (2%magic dmg, and if applyedx5 30% next finisher dmg)
-DC (CC with Immune to dmg)
-SD (Finisher boosts dmg of next 10 attacks)
    -DD (snare, burst dmg)
