Default Let's Talk Rangers! PVE Build & Shot Rotation

While leveling up I was swapping back and forth between ranger and marksman. Ultimately I ended up more ranger in the latter levels so I could get the higher lvl tank pet.

Anyhow, this is sort of where I've ended up spec wise.

    http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=1M...oqz.xhx0V.V0xM

I like this build for a few reasons:

1.) Raptor Pet, which does a decent amount of dmg.
2.) You get the passive armor reduction with all of your shots via penetrating shots
3.) You get the Marksman's Pedestal
4.) You get Hellfire Blades + Melted Skin in Nightblade
5.) You get 15% increase to your combo generating abilities via Blazing Fury & 15% increase to finishers via Coup De Grace in Nightblade.

With this guild my shot rotation goes something like this:

Splinter Shot -> Shadow Fire -> Quick Shot -> Dead Eye Shot

    Then

    Quick Shot X 4 -> Head Shot

    Rinse/Repeat

So those of you playing a Ranger/Marksman what do your builds look like? What sort of rotation are you using?

    *DISCLAIMER*

I don't consider myself and expert on the Ranger class and I have not spent endless hours with spreadsheets to theorycraft the optimal build rotation. This build/rotation is simply an organic outgrowth of my playstyle and in now way should be misinterpreted as an "optimal" build/rotation. The purpose of this post is to simply start a discussion regarding Ranger builds/rotations.

This is a powerhouse for ranged DPS (my current spec)
    *Pets*
    -Raptor Pet for DPS
    -Boar for Tanking
-Wolf sucks compared to the Raptor...

    *Buffs I use*
    -Pred Instincts - 46 AP
-Lethal Poison - +5% crit on weap apply
-Hellfire Blades - +5% dmg on weap apply

*Macros* - These allow auto switching between ranged and melee ranged abilities
    1. Spam (crippling shot, piercing shot, puncture, primal strike, quick shot, escape artist)
    2. Finisher (head shot, final blow)
    3. AOE (concussive blast, fan out)
    4. Haste (rapid fire shot, shadow fire, final blow)

    *Skills used outside of macros*
    -Marksman pedestal
-Expose Weakness - Can use it while in stealth but i find opening with Shadow Fire is better
-Rejuvinate - I also have this on a mouse button, keeps the pet alive
-Rain of Arrows...primary AOE move, I use the AOE macro once between Rain of Arrows cooldown (fan out)

*Combat* favor headshot over rapid fire shot (i cast rapid fire just to buff haste)
    1. Drop Sniper Pedestal
    2. Cast Shadow Fire - only used to open
    3. hit Spam Macro
    4. finisher macro
    5. Spam macro
    6. Haste Macro (only use to refresh haste)
    7. spam finisher...etc.

    *notes*
-average 540-550 dps ranged sustained, 400 melee range (700ish with bard buffs)
-this build does pretty sweet melee dps when the mob comes in range so when it gets to you..you don't have to kite/run.
-puncture is pretty sweet for helping build combo points in melee range.
    -final blow hits freaking hard.

I'm currently 42 and using assassin for the crit but mostly for blinding powder for adds and bladedancer for hit chance and some increased damge.

I'll probably try swapping out bladedancer for marksman, but I'd hate to lose the blinding powder from assassin (despite it requiring 5 points "wasted" on melee abilities which are rarely used).

I don't spend too much more in Ranger after greater Razorbeast. I always use the pet to tank so there's no need for a dps one, and the cooldown on quills usually doesn't matter.

Are you going to link that build in every thread until somebody notices you Kinien?

    Shadowfire->Piercing Shot->Swift Shot->Swiftshot->Deadeye

This seems a bit obvious to me.

Although I must say I often just spam swift shot then dead eye when Im pulling fast.

Well I was opening with splinter shot because I have blood rage in my build.

Well could just use an improved swift shot over a quick shot.

I personally dont focus much on pet damage. Its nice but Im more concerned about th pet tanking.

My build is a raid/dungeon build....not a solo build. Hence I'm using a DPS pet not a tank pet.

I notice a lot of people use shadow fire and splinter shot, but after parsing a lot of boss fights and target dummy data I found both to be a dps loss.

The other thing I see a lot of people do is go up marksman for the pedestal which isn't a bad thing, but after a lot of testing I found it to be too much of a liability especially on movement fights so I've dropped MM from my ranger build for single target dps.

I have since gone to a 37 Ranger, 17 AS, 12 NB build for single target boss fights.

    http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0M...z.0VMcx0b.V0xM

I use this macro for my filler shots and head shot for my finisher.

    #show Quick Shot
    cast Piercing Shot
    cast Crippling Shot
    cast Quick Shot

It's a super simple build with a 2 button rotation. There really isn't much to it and in my current gear I can pull with my pet right around 500-550 dps single target self buffed. Usually between 380-430 from me and 110-120 from my pet.

Well in a dungeon do you think that 15% more pet damage is better than the armor reduction?

I dont believe this thread is referring to leveling, as much as, a dps PvE build. Specing for leveling has nothing to do with dpsing an 5-man or raid.

There is not much value in using Swift Shot vs. Quick Shot, assuming your build includes Ranger. In that case, you should putting 3/3 into Improved Quick Shot. The bleed effect carries so much synergy with the pet damage, in addition, to the additional overall damage from the bleed itself.
