Default Mage spec for grinding IAs?

    Hey everyone,

I've played Rift on and off since launch, and I'm coming back now for the upcoming expansion.

It's been awhile since I played the game, but I did get to 64 before getting burnt out on Nightmare Tide. I figure I'll get my final level by grinding IAs, but I'm not very familiar with the recent class changes.

Could someone recommend to me a good mage spec for grinding IAs? (And one that isn't primarily Harb, since I don't really like the melee play style.)

    Thanks!

why not just do chalmers caldera to get that last lv. will def be alot faster. if you;ve been playing for a while you prob still have an 80 or 160 experience vial.

just down bolster to 50 and clear non expert version if u solo it can prob be 65 in like 20 mins.

    alot faster with harb though.

Sometimes I cry a bit inside when I realize I made that spec mainstream.

With 11 souls in just one calling, nine tiers of talents, plus accrued spells for each, it requires an exceptional amount of time to just figure out one decent spec. Spread that across five separate callings and you have a very high degree of complexity. Having just one spec that can put out acceptable DPS in most of the easier situations is a godsend. There's no reason to see a mage putting out 20k in an NTE, even with garbage gear. As dumbed down as it is, it's helped the community at large.

Of course this isn't the final spec everyone should be using, but it gets your foot in the door so you're not worthless, and you get interested in the class and grow into other specs.

you didnt make anything mainstream mages would be playing ele regardless of you posting anything, hell mages were playing ele in wfs when it was terrible so dont be so quick to pat yourself on the back.

Uh, yeah I did. I made a specific spec and point spread mainstream. I didn't claim to make the actual soul mainstream.

58 Ele is the go-to intro spec for Mages in PvE now.

If you want to grind as mage, play a 61harb spec with at least 8 points into the chloromancer.
With the other 7 points you can do whatever you want.

    Examples:
More shielding = Frostkeeper as third soul
More st dps = Elementalist (Lightning strike)
Little bit more aoe = Stormcaller

With this spec you are also more of use.
You have an interupt, two ways of stuns, passive raidheal and of course a way better self heal than the elementalist.
Also if you skill 1 point into Bloom you will have a little ST direct healing spell (instant thanks to your armor proc)
    Mallgar@typhiria & Malllgar@typhiria (2 Primalists)
    Guild: IMPERA - Deutsche Raidgilde

If u have the soul why not go Tank as many IA's dont even have a tank u al thinking about dps or heals no 1 ever gives 2 cents about the tanks a tank in any IA is worth the joy as u can get it done way faster.

    No, no, and **** no.

Its are a great low-pressure environment to experiment with new specs, familiarize oneself with rotations, work out the kinks, and generally skill up with new builds before taking them to NTEs or WFs.

A one-button spec just squanders that opportunity.

As dumbed down as it is, it's helped the community at large.
No, it didn't. Managing the CDs that force elemental cycles is an important skill a player has to master in order to be anything but a scrub Elementalist. Slapping those CDs into a mindless spam macro does not teach that skill.

The blame goes to the general Mage community, as it chose to embrace mediocrity.

58 Ele is the go-to intro spec for Mages in PvE now.
That has more to do with the weakness of the 61-point ability than your one-button spec, no?

No actually. It's basically the spec players can use until they learn Harbinger or some other better spec.

It's a good intro to raiding spec if you have no idea what you're doing.

Thanks for the input guys. I went Ele (no macros) and hit 65 in an afternoon.

While I thought Ele had some punch, I think I'm going to revert back to my Necro for the expansion. Not the most powerful pet class, but necro has so much more personality than Ele.
