    Default mage souls (im new)

So, i used the opportunity and got Rift for cheap since the Defiance guys want to get rid of their bonus copies. Which means im new.
And i am a bit confused about the mage souls.

I know chloromancer is for healing,
Harbinger is the big dps and solo soul.
Warlock is a damage over time big dps soul for long fights.
    Pyromancer is frontloaded dps.
Archon is group support and dominancer is a controller.

But what about ele and necro souls?
I really dont know what to make of them. Especially necro looks all over the place.

Also, are there any other specs that are decent for leveling? I know harbinger/chloro is the go-to thing, but maybe there are others.

Sorry, longwinded post. Just trying to get some not outdated info.

Ele and Necro are huge pet specs. The Necrolist is one of the good synergies that does good DPS and has some self healing.

What they do is basically create a combat buff system between you and your pet; if you crit, your pet crits, then you get an instant cast Missile/PBolt. Ignite gives your pet more crit, Missiles gives your pet 10% more damage.

It's a really fun spec to play, I recommend it for newcomers. Just know not to let your pet die, they are valuable to you if you play Necrolist; and Necromancer in general.

    .
either do I and I have been playing the game for 2 years

both ele and necro can solo fine, not as good as harbinger but good enough. they are good dps souls to choose when starting out as they are easy to play and the damage is not bad for leveling dungeons and fresh 60, it is when you start to gear up and get into raids that they really fall behind.
take a look at the necrolist or lazy elementalist posts in the guide section for some ideas

My heart is sad; even the new guy didn't think Stormcaller worth a mention.

@OP: Elementalist and Necro variations can also be used to solo if you don't want to chloroharb, but you will basically be focusing on keeping your pet up while they tank and burn things for you.

Yes... you have never played necrolock/soul purge mage back in the old school days eh.
Google "Essence Link" for your benefit and learn more about your class =). Oh not only its a self heal its also a healing debuff.

Most new kids have no clue nowdays tho esp the wannabe mages. I guess its mainly because Trion killed Soul Purge so its no longer a heavy dps attack anymore.

Nothing wrong with Stormcaller other than the fact that everyone seems to call us Tempests now for some reason.

If you come back to mage, go pyro 1-60. you wont need pet when mobs die in 3 key strokes. Also really good escape and defensive tactics. 3-group quests were a joke. Elite mob are no problem!

I tried the harbinger chloro but It required too much buttons and not enough aoe. pyro's aoe destroys!

yes it gets boring 3-shotting mobs, so your second soul can play around with party builds or w/e. have fun with the cleric.
