    Default Beastmaster vs Archon

Do they overwrite each other? And which is better?
The only way that someone from Cluster 2 is actually as bad as you all say is if they started playing this game in 2.3 (Free to Play launch).

They do overwrite each other when the buff is to the same stat.

So it's one or the other I take it? And which is better?

Right now one isn't inherently better than the other, BM's Enrage is significantly better than Lava Field. However BM lacks some of the utility you can gain from having an Archon, such as Cleansing Flames, Crumbling Resistance and Ashen Defense, and yes, I know that a Bard can cover the last two, but these last less time than the Archon versions. This doesn't include the sub-soul specs you can set up for more utility from the Archon (Arresting Presence, Reflective Command, etc).

Now, with the listed PTS changes for BM, it's very likely that BM will be the go to support due to the 15% max hp heal and the talented 15% max hp HoT after the initial heal.

Which one depends on the specific encounter. The major difference is Enrage vs Power Drain. Enrage is a significant boost to raid DPS, while Power Drain can be a major help with raid or tank damage.

On Crucia, for example, you'll always want an Archon for Arresting Presence and Power Drain during Orbital Strike.

Kain benefits greatly from BM, because the mechanics of that fights are more about DPS checks than survival.

The changes to BM will make BM more popular, but Archon will still be needed for many encounters.

We use BM on every fight (except Crucia due to above reasons) as well as other melee, it's not really an issue

depends of the fight as said in previous posts. And it also depends of the quality of your archon / BM. First objective of an archon or BM is maximum uptime for buffs debuffs and best use for cooldowns for lava field / enrage ...

Depending of the boss archon or bm can prove more usefull because of melee friendly fight more oriented toward BMs (better uptime for buffs even if archon can go melee with Archonbinger spec) also it seems BM dps is a bit higher than archon if well played. On other fights more oriented distance friendly, seems archon can be a better choice but I think a good BM can manage his buffs even if there is some disconnects.

Finally, it is a choice oriented on your roster, in some guilds mages are a rare resource and having an archon could be difficult, or the other way.
From a pure dps perspective I think BM is better for the raid, for melee encounters and critical heal burst also. For fight with utilities needed, archon will be ahead, and for not melee friendly fight it is a par.
We are currently studying BM new potential and will try both approach on some fights. I will let you know what we choose.
