    Default Harbinger Soul Broken?

    Ok, obviously this is going to attract the trolls, but please think about it. Yes, I realise that Harbinger can change, as it is still in development.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Current Performing DPS Specs
    Currently the viable mage souls have spell power scaling passive abilities as part of their soul trees. eg. Chloro = Living infusion, Pyro = Burning Bright, Warlock = Neddra's influence.
    The top dps build (defilemancer) is the optimum balance of passive scaling from Burning bright and Neddra's influence. The other competitive builds are 51 Pyro, or 51 Warlock, which get the most passive scaling from their respective trees.
    In fact, the spell damage scaling is probably what has made these souls THE souls for mage - as the other souls lack decent scaling for end game, and suffer (lose dps) as gear improves.
    What does this have to do with Harbinger?
    Harbinger is Life and Air damage, ie poor scaling from Pyro (as admitted on the video)
    From the video; 35 Pyro, 41 Harbinger: storms fury does ~14k dmg.
    From the video; 61 Harb, 15 Pyro; Storms Fury =~14k dmg
    This indicates that the Harbinger tree has extremely poor damage scaling, and so is likely to be a poor choice for raiding. [it may be competitive for entry level 60, but once T2,T3 equivalent happens, it will not be a top build].
    But maybe Trion is reworking to not rely on damage scaling passive abilities?
    Well, maybe. But the video shows StormCaller / Harbinger.
    From the video; 32 SC / 44 Harb; Storms Fury ~16.5k dmg.
    ie. SC provides damage scaling passive abilities, so these abilities still exist.
    Also note that any build that is 1/2 SC will not be anywhere near top ST DPS. Which in turn means that the 61pt Harbinger soul build may be sub-par on ST dps from release.
    Conclusion
    A properly worked Harbinger Soul Tree should do more ST damage then the SC / Harb hybrid (which has an AoE focus), even using a spam damage macro as shown on the video. Currently the video shows the 61pt HB build as doing 17% less ST damage then the SC hybrid build.
    Although Harbinger may be competitive at release, the lack of damage scaling within the soul tree means that as gear improves (p60,p70 or T4,T5) it will become less viable, and ultimately a broken/niche/gimmick soul.
    {I Really hope they fix this before release..}
    Given that the numbers had not yet been tuned in the Livestream, over a month ago, you can't draw any conclusions yet.
    Also every tree seems to have a 0pt passive which increases damage etc.
    You can see the Elementalist tooltip in the livestream.
    Also Burning Bright and Living Infusion etc have been removed.
    Nope.
    Obviously HB does not have a 0pt passive, otherwise it would have scaled better with a 61pt investment. SC either has the passive, or retains the current setup of spending soul points to gain passive scaling.
    Souls with passive scaling will always outperform souls without in the long run as gear is improved.
    can we at least wait until we have all the details on the harbinger soul, changes to all the other souls and changes to combat formula before we start with the [insert soul here] is broken threads
    I would hold off on any such assumptions until we get a chance to actually look at the talents and abilities to see what they do.
    Regardless of what happens, people will always be unhappy. Be thankful for what you have and always be constructive.
    A WIP soul that we know very little about possibly has some sort of scaling issue that we know little to nothing about?
    It's good to see people reacting this way to fears that Harby might be underbalanced. It means the Mage community hopes the soul is balanced instead of ludicrous OP. Bravo Mages.
    Harbinger appears to be broken, I can't play it yet.
