Default New Mage soul 2-handed sword?

So I'm not sure if this thread has been created but this page was posted up on riftgame.com today: http://www.riftgame.com/en/news/arti...l_twitchtv.php

Take a good look at the shadow of the mage, it almost looks like he has a 2-handed sword in his hand? Or am I totally imagining this and just wishful thinking? He's at least holding it like one!

It certainly looks more like a sword than a staff.
I highly doubt that's the case though, it'd be way out of left field.
    Nope.

Would be kind of interesting if all classes could use more weapons with new animations.

It could be a short pike or spear also?

That would require adding an entirely new weapon type.
That seems unlikely to me. Perhaps its just a really sharp staff.
    Nope.

Nice catch, maybe that means it is in fact a melee soul of some kind, whether tank or DPS?

    Like Hawke's staff?
Which, btw, seems like a logical addition to your armory.

Is it a coincidence that I'm replaying DA2 at the moment?
    Nope.

There is a staff model at Lv 43 I think, that looks like a spear. I have one saved on one of my casters hoping for weapon wardrobe slots. But I have never seen a staff that looks like a 2H Sword.

My hopes and dreams are for a dual-wielding Mage class, wielding staff and sword ala Gandalf (and higher level Lore-Masters in LOTRO)! He had some cool moves (in the movies).

Well not only does it look sharper than a staff he's also holding it like a 2-hander while standing still idle, so we can hope!

As far as I know, the only weapon type held like that is a two handed sword by a human at rest. Nobody holds a staff like that, and the arms are a bit too down for it to be a gun. Not an axe, hammer or a polearm, since the shadow doesn't look like one and that's not how a mathosian handles one of them.

As to the survival costume sword theory, it's one handed, very spiky, and crude. The silhouette (sp?) is two handed, smooth, and rather elegant in shape.

So from the looks of things, either we get training in two handed swords or the model is striking a special pose with an incredibly sword-like staff to throw us off. Either way, Friday can't come soon enough.
