Shiny. Looks like some weapon from final fantasy or something.
Sooooo, guess i need to dust off my old mage then if it's going to be some form of melee mage, especially one that can tank with a 2hander (so long as its not a pet reliant tank where the damage is shared between the mage and their pet).
However if it is some form of Melee Mage DPS, then that would almost certainly mean Warriors would be getting some 30m range love for their soul unveil, otherwise the QQ would be endless.
Looking forward to this friday XD.
Like I mentioned in this thread before, they will mostly likely introduce a melee mage.
Herald of Xotli from Age of Conan.
And if they learned anything from Age of Conan, you guys should be happy because this means several things:
1) High burst damage soul (for PvP).
2) High raid DPS soul (combined with Pyro Spark skill) will most likely mean highest DPS of all classes.
3) Probably very good AoE DPS (may even beat our best AoE specs) and warrior specs.
4) Melee now means mages have to pay even more attention to raid mechanics and have raid awareness which means players that are really quick on their feet (with little lag) will shine in raids with this build.

I have a question though. Lets assume he is holding a 2-handed sword, will that HAVE to be specced into in order to use it? Or do you think they will allow the mage class in general to use?
I'd also love it if 2-handed swords stats are comparable to stave's because I'd love to swing a sword around while casting.
Looking forward to this Friday. I am entertained by the speculation, but can offer no information regarding what stuff will be revealed on Friday, so by all means keep it coming.
Well if it is a melee soul, can we please have planar blade and riftwalk?
Kervik if this soul is melee somehow could you please make sure Elrar etc cover Hit/Dodge etc are generated for the Mage. Whether via passives like Justicars or some other method.
I need to finish the skeleton of my gear evaluation spreadsheet.
That is How a Staff is supposed to be held.
Theres a reason a staff is 2 handed. It requires 2 hands to use. You don't use it like a club (as depicted in the games animations).
The qualifier is supposed doesn't mean thats what we actually get.
I feel special a dev responded to a thread I made! hehe
But anyway, I'm not sure how I'd feel if it was a melee dps role. I think if it was a melee tank role that would be really awesome.
There's always the option they could just make 2 handed swords have caster stats as a new form of caster weapon, although I'm not sure how they would differentiate the stat difference between staff and 2-handed sword or if they would be the same stats.
