Default Give mages an innate 1 sec GCD?

Would it really be so bad to just give mages an innate 1 sec GCD without the need for Spark?

Just drop Spark, which really is just a band-aid fix to mage DPS. It's time to get off this pyro kick and add a bit more diversity to high end mage DPS.

No. mages are overpowered now - thats just making things insanely silly.

I don't it see it really changing things that much. Just bring the other 4 DPS soul up to speed with pyro. A few things might need some adjustment, like SC/ELE.

So making an overpowered class even more overpowered......

You know you're gonna get nerfed soon.

Just to clear things up, I was really thinking more of PvE content not PvP. But as I said I don't really see it changing the high end of mage DPS but giving us some diversity.

Then Mage damage would have to be nerfed by 30%

I think the GCD should be 1.5 seconds for every class and that should be set in stone forever with the only modification to it being maybe a haste like stat that is accessible by everyone (However this would call for a gear rest every now and then which I think Trion is trying to avoid).

As we can see from the reduced GCD with mages everything is PyroX/?/?. It has killed the diversity of the class.

To pin everything on spark as the main factor is wrong though. Pyro has a lot of other very very good abilities. Spark benefits only souls with a lot of instant casts (cloudburst, dots). Its good, but not the be all and end all. I would argue that fireball fully talented is a bigger factor than spark, and its a 2s cast, so it doesn't benefit from spark at all except for when heatwave is up (which is the intended benefit btw).

i'm a big fan of the 1 sec GCD for the simple reason of wanting to use abilities sooner then later. playing a ST spec is great right now, but every time i go back to a build without spark is lame. i feel like i could go afk in between each cast. imho we should have had a universal 1 sec GCD in all classes since launch.
Experience is the best teacher.. if you can afford the tuition.

From a pve perspective, that is nonsense. The high single target mage dps specs already have 1 sec gcd anyway.

GSB 5/5, RoS 5/5, DH 4/4, GP 4/4, RotP 4/4, HK 11/11, 5/8 ID (HM, no-reflect Rusila). Recruitment is open. We are especially interested in a highly skilled mage!

Necrolock would probably come back strong, and sc/ele would certainly become OP for aoe dps.

Because we saw a TON of warlocks topping DPS charts pre 1.6 right?
We saw a TON of necro's topping DPS charts pre 1.6 right right?
    No wait, we never did.

Most of the time it was 34/32 pyro elementalist for single target DPS
34/32 stormcaller for AOE and ST DPS (though the rotation was INSANELY difficult).

    That was it.

    There was no 42/13/11 pyro/lock/chon
There was no 38/28 defile mancer.
    There was no 36/30 pyrolock
There was no 36/30 Hot water sec.

Pyro may be central to the top DPS specs, but it offered more variety than there was previously due to the introduction of spark.
It helps to improve on stormcaller's lack luster ST.
It makes EXCELLENT use of DoTs from warlock.

The only souls that aren't seeing viability were those that were not viable as DPS specs in the first place.
Necromancer has never compared to the other DPS specs pre 1.6
    Neither has elementalist or Dominator.

    Necrolock was best for soloing.

SC/Ele is already top for AOE dps. O_o

I think most would agree SC/pyro is better.
