Default Rank 8 PvP Staff vs Rank 8 Mageblade/Tome

I went and added up the stats from both the Staff and the Mageblade/Tome and was wondering which most mages prefer and why? Granted there are PVE options as well, i'm specifically speaking from a PVP perspective only.

    Virtuoso's Greatstaff (2 hander)
    61 Intelligence
    42 Wisdom
    41 Endurance
    692 Spell Power
    45 Spell Crit

    Virtuoso's Mageblade/Heretic's Tome (combined)
    64 Intelligence
    58 Wisdom
    51 Endurance
    673 Spell Power
    38 Spell Crit

You may find this useful, if you have Excel. You may also want to change endurance to 1.0 for PvP, and remember the runes/enchants will give slightly more for 1h/oh.

    (The 1h/oh looks slightly better.)

I prefer the sword and totem combo because it looks better and has more endurance.

I like Sword/Tome mostly for looks and I do feel it's slightly better stat-wise, but it's a small difference imo.

I use the sword since I have the HK offhand from Murdantix.

When I said "looks slightly better" I meant stat-wise.

MH/OH = More end and the 200 damage shield rune (ice wall rune).

    Staff = More damage.

So, mh/oh for PvP, and staff for PvE.

    That's my opinion ofc.

Staff is a burning skull thing. That's why I picked it.

In the end, no matter what you do, you will be the OP powerhouse of any wf anyway... you are a mage ;)

One thing to remember is that you still need some focus in PVP.

I would not go into WF without at least 40. You can achieve this by using a PVE wand and the p8 staff, but I think in the end you get more stats with the P8 wand, p8 Mainhand and a PVE offhand (Darkling Skull or Merdantix drop). Obviously your options are limited if you don't PVE... I guess some rune options are there too, but they involve dropping 30 or so intel or 25SP depending on your rune choices.

For people who have resists on their gear or their specs, and make your spells fizzle. You don't need 300, but I would highly recommend ~40. I run 103, but that's only because I use the same weapons for PVE and PVP (saves on me powerstones).

The truth of why you are doing with it at least with what I've tested, is as a caster you are mitigating the elemental resists that people get on things like lesser essences on their source cores (just look at your stat tooltips)... which as you can see for just about anyone will be typically 0-50 for each elemental. it's 1% resist chance for every 10 "resist" points, therefore at 50 its a 5% chance to resist your spell. People theorize that Focus is about a 1 for 1 against resist for casters, so you'd therefore need at max 40-50 focus to "be safe"

I have 18 focus at full R8, I play premade queues all day long against geared R8 teams, and I almost never see resists on my chloro, dom, or lock builds... definitely not enough of them to want to trade an offensive rune for it. It's all preference. 18 is fine for me
