Default Visage off the Deep vs... Visage of the Deep.

I'm looking at the two mage-friendly epic Visage of the Deep helmets from the water quest, and beginning to think that perhaps I don't understand Mage itemization.

    One has:
    Int: 23
    Wis: 10
    SP: 19
    Focus: 35

    and the other has:
    Int: 29
    Wis: 17
    End: 8
    SCrit: 22

I'm very confused as to which one I should take (for dungeon/raiding). Looking at the second one, I'm thinking that the endurance is wasted itemization, so I should go with #1. But then #1 has focus (which I don't particularly need at the moment), and far less Int/Wis. Is the spell power worth the -int? I have no idea!

The first one is a better helm for any spec in every way. (bar the non-existant Endurance)
    Nope.

Last I heard, Int and Wis both give 0.5 spellpower per point for us Mages, and Int gives one point to Spell Crit. With that in mind, the first helm has 12.5 spellpower on the second, though at a loss of 28 crit. The 35 Focus, however, will get you closer to being geared for HK if you don't have 320 yet. At least, that's what my guild requires for Hit/Focus for DPS types, though I'm sure other guilds have a similar requirement.

According to the guide that works with stat weights (http://forums.riftgame.com/rift-gene...de-v2-0-a.html), each point of Spellpower is worth about 4 points of Crit. It would take 2 points of Crit to equal the value of 1 Focus. So, working with these numbers, the first helm is much better.

    1. Equip an item with focus
    2. Replace focus enchants with SP
    3. ...
    4. Profit!

First one gives you gives you 45.5 SP 23 Crit
Second one gives you 23 SP 51 Crit

    Go with the first one..

I don't know where people get this absurd idea that Focus is worth less than any other stat. (when below cap)
    5 Focus = 1% increased hit chance
Assuming 1000sp for simple calculations then you would need minimum 10sp to gain a 1% damage increase.
Ergo at 1000sp and 1% chance to miss against current content:
    5 Focus > 10 Spellpower and at 2000sp 5 Focus > 20 Spellpower

I realise there's spell coefficients and different Focus values to take into consideration but the logic holds true through each situation.

    Nope.
