    Default Spec recomendation

I am a level 25 mage named Naronas. And I am an alcoholic. Now that that is out of the way,

I've been playing my Mage and really enjoying it lately. I run a necro/lock solo spec, Chloro PvE, and Pure Pyro.

And I am looking for a new spec to play around with. Either a nod in the right direction, or a spec would be appreciated greatly. Thank you.

Seriously, nobody has any suggestion to help me out?

At that level you can pretty much try out whatever pops into your head. That is also what I would recommend. Get experience with every soul then decide what you like best.

First is a Necro/Chloro build which will be great support in groups as well as an excellent solo spec. You can also go Warlock/Chloro if you prefer that over Necro and it will give you excellent mana management.

    Warlock/Chloro: http://rift.zam.com/en/stc.html?t=0zvqR.eez..xdhuo

And then a pure Archon build just for fun.

And just for giggles, an Elementalist spec.

But the previous poster is right, you can pretty much play with anything at your level.

I would have put up a Stormcaller spec, but with 1.3 coming out soon I don't think you would really want to get used to it.

Thank you! I'm interested in the chloro/necro and chloro lock specs. What type of rotation would those work with>

Buggy flipping forums ate my original post... so here is the condensed version.

For both specs solo whatever kills the mobs fastest and keeps you and your pet alive will work. For bosses it goes like this.

    War/Chloro
Withering Vines, Life Leech, Dark Touch, and then spam Void Bolt until you need to refresh a DoT. When charge is full you can use Entropic Veil and/or Stream of Reclamation. Use Nature's Touch as you need to for healing.

In this spec what you need to remember is whenever you use a Life Spell you get a 25% bonus to intelligence, so try to weave them in when you can. Also you can use Sacrifice Life for Mana right after a Nature's Touch to instantly heal up the damage caused by SL:M because NT takes a few milliseconds to reach your target. Also you can cast some spells like Life Leech without having to see your target.

    Nec/Chloro

Pretty much the same except you manage your pet differently.
Use Grave Rot and Necrosis as soon as you can ( and Looming Demise when you get it ) to increase your pet damage and use Withering Vines to keep that 25% int buff up. Also you can keep Searing Vitality up on the mobs if you feel like it, but it is a short DoT. Other than that spam Nature's Touch and Vile Spores on the mob until you need to refresh DoTs or you have full charge. Then if your charge is full pop Entropic Veil and Soul Purge if you don't need to refresh a DoT in 6 seconds or more. Again all that is mute if you need to heal. Remember if you are using the Archon soul as your third to keep stacks of pillaging stone up for the int/wis buff.

When healing for either spec remember that Nature's Touch ( with Synthesis on your tank/pet ) is your go to healing spell for your tank and that ONLY your life spells do enough healing compared to your other souls spells. So weaving in a DoT or two is not a bad idea when the damage is light. Also don't forget about Natural Conversion against caster bosses, it can make some of those fights silly easy when you see them cast a big spell.

But remember part of the fun in RIFT is finding out how you like to play, so I urge you to play around with everything. Have fun.

Necro lock would be a better choice for you no drinking in dungeons or otherwise. the tanks aoe at later levelsi is not as convenient or easy to use as the elementalist but is nice since soul purge heals you and your pet making it easier to solo elites. In addition the oppurtunity talent alows for instant summons for a free new summon which is a free full health knight. While in raids dungeons or WFs you can use the skills blood binding and life shift for limited effect on fellow players. Picking lock and dom as your secondary souls allows for you to shutdown 2 targets via transmog one target and fear the other. At later levels you are capable of rather effective solo aoe with devouring shadows coupled with grave rot then mortality when you get low. if you opt to do so you can amplify the aoe capability via the corpse explosion spell. What you are capable of when i mentioned the above depends on where you alot your points. This is my personal preference.
