I've been struggling since day 1 of playing a mage to find a build that allowed me to solo efficiently while keeping downtime to a minimum and being able to take adds and get out of sticky situations.
I've tried heavy necro builds (completely underwhelmed by dps, barely more than my healing spec) and heavy warlock builds (too many buttons for me to worry about when soloing and not fantastic survivability unless you use all your clickies just right), but I have always come back to my instance healing chloro/lock spec for soloing. I knew this wasn't efficient.
Last night I finally decided to make a spec that has what I like (healing and rotation from chloro) with more dps. Here is where I ended up last night and I love it.
DPS is about 90% higher than my healing spec (duh). I'm struggling on where to go from here. Do I start picking up 5% crit from elemental? Pick up a few more things from chloro? Fill out some of the utility in the warlock tree? Grab archon for buffs and more group friendliness?
Are there other solo specs I'm really missing out on?
