    Default Cleric DPS tips?

    Hi,

Old player returning back after taking a two/three year break. When I played inquisitor was one the highest dps classes out there. Does anyone know what it is now for raids/dungeons? A link to a guide would be nice too for rotations/gears/tree/etc.

In current raids mostly Inquisitor, Shaman or DPS Oracel (support) is played.

It is bottom of the dps in practical use. On dummy other classes are about 1.3million plus. Inquisitor is about 1.1million+. It has no cleave from range and it is a turret spec that suffers the most from movement and disconnects and target switch. Primalist which is far better ST with cleave can bring clinging spirits or tenebrious distortion to the raid with conflagrate so almost all the things that make cleric good has been shifted to other classes. The only thing they have left is the ability to resurrect players as a tank. Even other tanks can heal now.

*Mage and Rogue don't require you to buy payed souls to DPS. Cleric requires you to buy payed souls to BARELY be competitive as a DPS if at all. Warrior and Primalist are good DPS options as well but they have some problems with cleave and AE viability from range. They are good ST though but require paying for souls to dps.

Mage have the best Support in the game that can both heal and dps well. Rogue have the best Secondary Support in the game with Tact/bard. They are able to out heal full AE healers while bringing all the essential bard buffs. You can also do healing as a dps bard unlike dps oracle.

Druid is the best dps of this class but it requires you to be stuck to your target and its rotation was made even more horrible even though clerics asked for a better less clunky rotation directly. They also never got stuff promised to them like an aggro breaking ability so they are mostly forgotten.

The devs revisited shaman like 7 times between last expansion and this one just to make them raid viable throughout each expansion. And cleric was just given a bandaid fix with Fervent Strike Legendary to all its dps souls as well as buffing Icy Blow Legendary by huge damage increases to fix shamans incredibly poor scaling.

Although Mage have good DPS souls at the moment they also (to lesser degree than cleric) have slightly poorer scaling than other classes. 1 sec gcd classes like rogue and primalist have had the best chances to be broken and OP. It shows as they were the most OP for the longest time they existed in every expansion going back now 2 to 3 expansions.

Most of my information comes from Streams, including Trions own streams, current and retired top cleric players as well as analyzing data from prancing turtle and other sources. A big chunk comes from highly renown guilds and top players who retired from rift or retired from playing cleric altogether though. Some of it is personal experience as well. Telling it how it is is not being bias. You can also see on bottom of Bamul's top x players which is small sample size that clerics are mostly tanks in this expansion. It doesn't tell you why though which is their other roles are less viable or seeked after for raid content.

*Prancing Turtle parses are more accurate in determining the practical usage and performance of a spec in a certain instance or encounter. It includes much more variables that pertain to functionality in any given raid environment. You can parse well on a dummy and be balanced 1 to 1 in dps but other things like ramp up time, frequency of burst, frequency of heals, impact on dps due to mobility, disconnect, target switching, phase changes, cleave, resource management, and dependency of you to use utility clearly negatively impact your dps but it goes unregistered on dummy parses. Testing on dummy parse is similar to testing in a sand box and not inclusive of many of these factors listed.

Don't get confused by numbers, balancing is an ongoing process and I'm sure Trion has realized that clerics need a little more love. It sounds trite but play the class you like and don't make it dependent on any current rankings.

    ... but, if you're not a primalist, just re-roll

I don't think it is wrong to tell players to not play a class that. from a historical point of view. has been the least viable DPS in the game if their aim is to dps. Consider Defiler, Runeshaper and Oracle. They are the least used souls in the game and they are pay to play on live but they are must have to maximize dps, get a sort of ae cleave from range or maximize heal because of low hanging abilities in the tree or root and to be honest they all don't do well in this expansion.
