Default Looking for some pretty str8 forward information

So I came back to game about a month ago lvled a mage since I thought I would like the healing but can't stand it lol. So I have decided to level my cleric again. I have been doing non stop reading and research and the more I read the more confusing it gets. Simply put I want a spec that is not melee that will allow me to solo in SL w/o dying. I am currently druid and its fine and dandy but I DESPISE melee lol. Also is warden not viable at all in healing 5 mans and experts? All i read is the sent/pur is the build for experts. Any help is appreciated and you can even in game me to same name

Defiler based specs work for soloing at range. Basically the only effective way to solo at range (other than Tactician) is with a pet and Druid is a melee spec. So with Defiler you can have the beacon of despair tank, you can keep a HoT on it and you can instantly heal it to full in between GCDs. All damage you do will create threat on the beacon while it is up. There are some guides around the cleric guide section.

For healing experts sentinel or puri are optimal because the majority of the healing you need to do is on the tank. Warden is a raid AoE healer that is not effective at healing less than 10 people.

Back in beta, I plowed through SL using max inq with 2 in puri (shield + sow) and the rest in def. This allows excellent range/st dps, decent AoE, single target heals, and survivability. I still use this spec soloing today. Being in melee range with this spec only increases the dps output, but it is not a "melee" spec.

For soloing/questing, there are two builds that I've found both work amazing, albeit in different circumstances. The first is 41 defilier (I think, it's whatever you need for pain transmission)/rest cabalist, with 0 points in justicar for the heals when you aoe. This setup is amazing at aoe, with beacon you can pretty much mow down 8 enemies at a time if you can find large enough groups of them! The only time you'll ever have trouble is if you pull too many at once and they kill your beacon, but that only really happens when you get really greedy. This spec is super-survivable too, with a heal skill that pretty much can send you from 0 to full health in a cast. The only downside is that the single-target dps isn't that great, so you have to aoe for it to be really effective...and a lot of SL mobs are so spread out that you can't.

The second one that worked for me is to put all points into inquisitor, with cabalist as a side tree for dark water and a few points in puri, just for the shield and the basic self-heal. This setup does really good single-target dps, once you get the skill that lowers your global cooldown. It's good before then too, but just not as good. This setup is good for mowing down single-target things, but it is really tough to handle groups of enemies in this build I find.

This is probably going to get me flamed because I'm not level 60 with him yet, but I've got a cleric that I've been leveling when I'm tired of warrioring it up. Similiarly, I was like you and tired of the melee; I wanted something more casty and play the game in a new light yesterday.

After playing around with various variants of Cab & Inq; what I ended up settling down on was 40 puri / 21 druid and what attracted me to the spec was Fire Wall + Eruption + Shield/Healing + Pet.

I wouldn't say it has high ST damage, I'd say the variant's strength is that it handles packs and survivability is thru the roof if you manage the pet well. Closed a few rifts and went thru zones pulling 5-6 and was able to aggro waves and burn them down pretty quickly.

Gathered up clumps of mobs, had the pet taunt them, dropped two firewalls then spammed ward of flame on pet, eruption was hitting for a little over 1000 per tick to pet's target at my level. I had loads of fun with it.

Warden is not a viable dungeon healer. They turned it into an AE specialist and it is only used in raids of 10+ now.

Nothing is as good at leveling as druid. But you can level fine as inquisitor as long as you have justicar as one of your souls and are careful not to over-pull. Most single and double pulls you can tank with your lifedrain DoTs, salvation, and the occasional harsh discipline. Judicial privilige is your panic button, use it for half HP heal and/or speed to run away.

If you have defiler soul, I suggest this as a solo spec:

Same idea, except you get a 3rd lifedrain DoT, some healing boosts, and a tank pet (beacon). Beacon is a disposible tank here, don't bother trying to heal it. You can drop a new one in 15 seconds. Make sure you use your defiler DoT often enough to keep your shield (husk of indifference) active.

The other build that works good in Experts is a 61 Purifier / 12 Warden / 3 Sentinel.
I find it easier than Sentinel, and it has lots of mobility and AoE healing

    you have 2 options:

    1. the best option is defiler, enough at least to grab beacon and rampant growth.

    2. the less optimal option is to grab the tanking pet from druid.

with either the beacon or the pet, you can then sit back and dps from range. otherwise, whether you're range or melee, everything runs up to you and starts beating on you.

    And it has Firewall!

The only thing I miss with that spec is the instant Latent Blaze. Why does it still have a 3 second cast time?
