I did when I was lower ranked for a little bit of extra survivability.
Even free cost too much now

Exactly! For me it is about a 450 SP hit.

I carry the shield on one of my healing specs when the other team is full of Rogues and Warriors. Less healing, much less DPS but if you put enough points into Just you can have them help you build mana each time you block.

You gimp yourself using a shield by losing a large portion of spellpower and crit. Not only that but you don't actually block more just because you equip a shield. If you expect to block (dodge and parry) incoming damage, then you need to be spec'd into the passives in Justicar.

Using a shield is for derps, that's all there really is to it.

Even when I was a justicar (class that uses a shield) warden (healer) to run the part (sorry It was guys like me who got us nerfed in pvp... ) i had more survivability using a 2handed mace than I did using a shield.
the shield because of lack of spell power actually LOWERED your defense , since at the time block and parry was based off spellpower. I had a parry and dodge of 24% and heals that ticked for 500, or i coulda put on a shield and had a bock of 12, and a parry dodge of 7%.

Just the opposite. Ill repeat and add....

1: Wearing a shield provides less "stats" which only hurt your healing/survival
2: No shield PA's for a further stat drop
3: No real defensive benefit from the shield unless your built for it and even then its minor
4: A 2 hander often provides more survivability for a defensive healer then a shield will
5: Most clerics dont have a good shield

When he says 'they' he is probably referring to shields.

You may only have 1 post... but you get a cookie regardless for that.

The ignorance of the cleric community about Pvp is astonishing. Obviously if you use the shield you have the minimum 13 points in Justicar. It is not for a DPS spec, it is for healing. It is for personal survivability.

Which still doesn't give enough block to be useful vs anyone with the brains to use pve weapons/hit runes.

In full P40 gear you might scrap 40% block, completely cancelled by pve weapons and runes. Worth losing 400SP?

You'd need to go at least 24+ in justicar to make it worthwhile using a shield. To get your parry/dodge and precept up enough to get some good avoidance over and above a player with 200 hit. but it sitll does nothing but gimp you vs mages and clerics.

Interesting... being that it gives less personal survivability and way less stats then a 2 hander or even 1 hand off hand.. unless your built for wearing a shield.. aka full on tank mode + side healing.

Once upon a time a year ago justicar would of made sense for other specs survival. "See old duracel" Now it's nerfed somewhat from that so shields pretty much should stay with deep tanking builds.
