Default [HOWTO] Self-Targeting for RIFT Macros

    http://taugrim.com/2011/08/14/self-t...r-rift-macros/

After talking to some folks on Vent, I realize that there are still many level 50 players who do not know about the @self option for self-targeting.

So I'm posting this here in case any of you were not aware of it.

    ----------------------------------

As you may know, there is an option in RIFT for self-cast: Settings > Interface > Combat > Auto Self-Cast.

If you enable the option, when you have an enemy targeted and cast a beneficial spell that can be cast on other players, that spell is cast on you, but your enemy remains as your target. This is the behavior I typically want in PVP.

However, that UI option does not work if you are using a macro!

Take for example the following Sentinel/Justicar macro which is intended for self-healing:

    #show Healing Breath
    suppressmacrofailures
    cast Healing Breath
    cast Doctrine of Bliss
    cast Healing Grace

If you have an enemy targeted and cast that macro to heal yourself, the target in the UI switches from your enemy to you if the spell cast is Healing Breath or Healing Grace, because those spells can be cast on other players. This can be really annoying to deal with, especially in group / raid fighting when you want to keep the same enemy targeted.

There is a simple fix to get Auto Self-Cast working for macros. Simply add the @self parameter for any spells that you want to be cast on yourself without causing a target switch:

    #show Healing Breath
    suppressmacrofailures

    cast @self Healing Breath
    cast Doctrine of Bliss
    cast @self Healing Grace

While I agree that @self is a very useful addition to macros (as is @focus), there's no need for it in front of Glory of the Chosen or Doctrine of Bliss. Both only target the cleric, so there's no reason to add @self to the macro. Healing Breath, on the other hand, can target any ally, so @self is very useful.

A whole month of playing, wasted.

Thanks for letting me know what I was missing out on!

or use a shift modifier like I have been for 6 years.

    or use mouseovers.

I do the same thing with DoB, since it casts on you, it's nice to macro other heals self cast with it. Cleanses will only fire if your target needs them so you might macro both of these, then a cleanse, then a HoT or the puri instant. I usually keep my self shield up in the same macro. It's just handy on Justi hybrids since you spend a lot of time healing yourself while hitting your target.

    You are correct.

I'll update the original post for clarity.

I use @mouseoverui (better than @mouseover IMO) and modifiers as well.
