    Default Question on Gear

I wanted to ask a few questions on gear for clerics. I know our primary stat is wisdom and the secondary is inteligence. What I want to know is what gives the better results for different roles. Like fore healing, dps and tanking. Like when is it best to go with a 2 handed staff vs 2 handed mace, or using a 1 handed with totem or tome or shield. While I know for the most part its going to depend on the item but I am looking for a general rule of thumb to go by. Essentially what I want is bigger heals when healing, better burst damage when in a damage role and better survivability when tanking. I been hearing alot of conflicting arguements on whether a shield is worth it or not, so if someone can give me a definate answer as to how it really is for shields in the end game that would be most helpful. Lastly whats the purpose of the wand in the range slot? What attacks are effected by that items stats.

your best bet for most roles will be to get a lightsmashed crafted with an augment. for healing i use a blessed lightsmasher with an epic wisdom augment, and it far outperforms any 1hander/offhand combo available. its quite inexpensive to craft as well.

Lightsmashed? This is a recipe for something right? This is a mace or staff? Sorry for being noobish but might highest character is only 40 now.

Inquisitor, Sentinel and Shaman all have abilities dependent upon crits, which makes them benefit marginally more so from critical hits than normal.

Tanking you typically go one handed / shield. Note that depending on your gear options you might use a dagger over a mace. You look silly, but it can be optimal.

Casting you typically go one handed / totem because that is usually higher stats than a two hander.

Melee you almost always go two hander because it gives better DPS for your spells and while you might have lower spell power and other stats, your abilities will still deal more damage.

Initially people were planning on maxing Parry rate from Devout Deflection in Justicar to support two handed tanking, however, because there appears to be a hard cap of 20%, Justicars must use a shield.

In general you will likely want the item with more spell power and more wisdom on it. Sometimes items with intelligence might give you both more spell power and more spell crit. Simply add up the listed spell power and then add 0.25*INT + 0.75*WIS to get the total spell power.
