Talking WoW borrowing abilities from RIFT? More likely than you think.

According to the latest WoW patch notes:

Rallying Cry (new ability) is available from trainers at level 83. It temporarily grants the warrior and all party or raid members within 30 yards 20% of maximum health for 10 seconds. After the effect expires, the health is lost. It has no cost, no stance requirements, and is not on the global cooldown. It has a 3-minute cooldown, but also shares a cooldown with Last Stand.
The moment I saw that note, something clicked and I just had to check...

    Rallying Command
Increase the maximum and current health of all raid members by 25% and Resistances by 30. Affected allies become Field Weary and cannot benefit from Rallying Command again for 5 minutes:
    1 Point: 5 seconds.
    2 Points: 12 seconds.
    3 Points: 20 seconds.
    Step 1: Play RIFT Beta
Step 2: See awesome warrior ability.
Step 3: Apply it to local warrior class.
    Step 4: ???
    Step 5: PROFIT!

Even if that is so, I am sure Blizzard would point out the hundreds of skills that you could make the same argument that Rift stole. There are only so many MMO abilities that work into traditional mechanics.

Oh, I wouldn't call it stealing.
RIFT definitely has a lot of abilities that mimic WoW's, of course.
I just found this funny considering the timing, at which the ability is being added.

    Your surprised?

If the invasions and rifts become popular then i fully expect to see something similar added to WoW.

The same way they 'borrowed' pvp lakes/zones from WAR/DaoC, the idea of mounted combat from AoC and a few others from other mmos.
With Faith and Fury I fight on.

Well, considering how much Rift copied from WOW then in the extremely unlikely event Blizzard did consciously copy this it's barely denting the debt Rift owes WOW.

Of course, Rift is hardly the first game to see this sort of open-world event: hint, FFXI has had two variations of this for years.

How about we just say everyone "borrows" ideas from everyone else. It's happened since the dawn of MMO's and it's going to keep happening.

Did you bother reading the notes?

It not only has a 3 minute cooldown, but it's shared with Last Stand. It would have been better on a 5 minute cool down of it's own.

How is this news? MMOs have been borrowing abilities from each other since the 90s.

And humans have been borrowing ideas from each other than that. Duplication is so much easier than creation after all...

*shrug* WoW can borrow whatever it likes, they're still stuck with a talent system that tries to be a mix of rigid class system and flexible customization system, and just winds up failing at both more often than not.
