    Default Charm play possible?

    Hi,

I played a coercer in EQ2 but didn't found a similar class in rift.

Have I overlooked something? Is any kind of charm possible in RIFT or at least planned for the future?

i dont believe you can charm like you could in EQ2.

your best bet would be some combination of pet class(necro/summoner) and dominator for pure CC.

The Dominator gets "confusion" effects, and I thought that these would be similar to a charm, but turns out it just makes the mobs wander around randomly. It's basically just a second batch of sleep spells.

there are no charms in rift.

also, confuse is exactly the same as blind from WoW.

jeffd - you don't know what you are talking about.

Bards have a couple of charms (not a huge amount, but a couple) at higher levels.

I'm not sure you can really count Motif of Encouragement as a charm.

point out the "couple of charms" in that skill list for me.

make sure you mention motif of encouragement, so you'll prove yourself to be exactly as stupid as i think you are.

    He's probably referring to:
    • Verse of Captivation (34 root)
    • Verse of Fascination (tier 6 tree)
But these are probably not charms. They're "mesmerize," which I assume means they're pretty much sleeps (target does not attack until damaged).

They're also not nearly as potent as the Dominator's. They both have 30 second cooldowns and last 8 seconds. I'm not seeing any verse duration extenders in the tree.

The following are the two mesmerizing/charm skills that Bard receive at higher levels.
You are no longer worth my time addressing after this.

    Verse of Fascination
    20 Energy 20 Meter Range
    Cast time: 1.5 second
    Cooldown: 30 second

Plays a Verse that mesmermizes surrounding enemies for 8 seconds. Any damage on affected enemies removes the effect.

    Verse of Captivation
    25 Energy 20 Meter Range
    Instant cast
    No cooldown

Plays a Verse that mesmerizes enemies for 8 seconds. Any damage on affected enemy removes the effect. Only 1 enemy can be mesmermized at a time.

You seem to have set up the thread for a spiral of negativity and probably should have fostered enough patience to explain the difference instead of being all this way about it.

That said, it seems to me that charm play is a likely future enhancement. It's not like we haven't seen it work in other MMORPGs, and the Dominator's Overpowering Will would be better utilized as a charm affect instead of yet another boring sleep.

As long as Charm doesn't work in PVP, I'm all for it.

Anyone remember those damn Charmers walking you off the bridge at Blackrock Spire and right into the lava down below ? Damn that was annoying.
