Default Thinking of coming back, but...

I have a question regarding the souls added after SL for the various classes. In short, do I need to purchase them in order to be competitive for tanking, healing or dps'ing? To put it another way, are any of the classes considered broken without them? I'm mostly interested in Rogue and Mage souls, although I may play Warrior or Cleric depending on how they feel.

    I don't even...

    *
    Mage:
    • Arbiter, Tank soul. Needed? If you want to tank, yes.
    • Harbinger, DPS soul. Needed? If you want to be competitive in dps, yes.
    • Frostkeeper, healing soul. Needed? If you want to tank heal, yes.

    Rogue:
    • Physician, healing soul. Needed? If you want to tank heal, yes.
    • Tactician, whatever soul. Needed? If you want to AOE heal, yes.
    • Shadeborn, DPS soul. Needed? Debatable, looking at you Sab.

    Cleric:
    • Defiler, DPS soul. Needed? If you want to be competitive in dps, yes.
    • Oracle, support soul. Needed? If you want to play support, yes.
    • Runeshaper, DPS soul. Needed? No.

    Warrior:
    • Tempest, DPS soul. Needed? If you want a ranged soul, yes.
    • Liberator, healing soul. Needed? If you want to AOE heal, yes.
    • Warchanter, healing soul. Needed? If you want to tank heal, yes.

    Primalist:
    • Needed? No.

    Going back to
In short, do I need to purchase them in order to be competitive for tanking, healing or dps'ing?
    Yes, you do.

*currently, might change, will definitely not, because of course you need to pay up to stay competitive.

Let's see - souls AFTER SL would be:

    Frostkeeper
    Runeshaper
    Warchanter
    Shadeborn
All of Primalist - but since he did not list Primalist as a class of interest I did not consider that in my response.

Allow me to restate my opinion in a manner even you should be able to understand:

Frostkeeper for Mage healing - YES
Runeshaper for Cleric dps - No (Hardly matters though you will get this along with the other 4.)
Warchanter for Warrior healing - Probably
Shadeborn for Rogue dps - YES

Now if you wish to include in this discussion soul packs released with or during SL my recommendations are:

    Souls released with Storm Legion:
Harbinger for Mage dps - YES
Defiler for Cleric dps - Yes
Tempest for Warrior dps - Yes
Tactician for Rogue - Probably for Phystact

Souls released during Storm Legion T3:
Arbiter for Mage tanking - Yes
Oracle for Cleric support - No (even with the defiler changes this soul is outperformed by Bard in every way)
Liberator for Warrior healing - Yes
Physician for Rogue healing - Yes

Or put in terms of the packages for purchase:

Storm Legion DLC - If playing a Mage, Cleric, Warrior, or Rogue you should strongly consider this purchase.
Nightmare Tide DLC - If playing a Mage, Warrior, or Rogue you should strongly consider this purchase.
Ascended Soul DLC - If playing a Mage, Warrior, Rogue or Primalist you should strongly consider this purchase.
If Cleric is the only class you will ever play - consider a different game or purchase the Storm Legion DLC for Defiler (top dps spec as of last night.)

Just because FK is OP for heals doesn't mean you NEED it, chloro can heal just fine.

You need it for tank healing. Chloro CAN tank heal, but it's sketchy at best without shields.
Everything after Storm Legion was a mistake. ()
