    Default AoE-based class?

hey I am very new to the game I literally just found out about it today, and it actually looks pretty interesting. In WoW I rolled as a boomkin and a mage, and their vast amounts of magic-based dps was amazing to me and I was wondering which class in this game is AoE based. So ya, if you know... It would be great if you told me... or if there isn't really one (yet) then tell me that too... thanks!

Right now we know only some vague info about most of the classes, from what we can judge now warlocks do have some serious aoe, and most likely stormcallers are getting some aoe's too. The rest of the classes we either dont know anything about or they have only some moderate aoe damage.

I would also assume champions are going to get some nice melee AoE down the line. Most MMOs incorporate at least one heavy wearing Melee aoe DPS. I know reavers have a few good aoes (however they are tanks)

Yeah, champion is the berserker-type fighter Rift has got. Someone needs to tank all that aoe anyways.

With the name and description I would not be at all surprised if the Mage' Storm Caller' was an AoE specialist.

I am still hoping AoE Grinding doesn't have a big reward, or is damn near impossible.

My reasoning? The use of CC is amazing. It helps players play a lot better when they have to pay attention to what is going on around them. So many games are simplifying combat so much, it is getting boring.

I hate to say it, but the combat in EQ1 was amazing. Couldn't really pull 2-3-4 mobs your level with a full group, without a CC'er! Players were much better back then, compared to now it seems.

    Hope this isn't to simplified.

I hate to say it, but even Socrates complained to Plato about how things were much better way back then. AoE farming is a reality, it's just that risk vs reward need to be balanced very well.

What we definitely not need is aoe farming. It's too crippling to classes without the aoe dps. While this is not this harsh an issue in rift for obvious reasons, we still dont need it. Quests are fine on their own.

Stormcaller is a confirmed AE focused class, I forget which video stated that, but it was definitely in a developer video.

You can also see some AE ability in some of the other known Mage classes. I haven't seen anything in any of the Rogue classes that looks "AE" ish, but again, we don't have nearly as much information on the Rogues.

AoE vs. Single target are just different schools of thought. I don't mind classes that are capable of AoE farming. It's risky considering the same amount of mobs at the beginning of the AoE are alive at the end of it. Since they all die roughly at the same time, the pack will always be a danger. Single target classes should kill mobs at a rate similar to the AoE classes with downtime factored in; and rest assured, AoE classes generally have significant downtime after AoEing.

I'm wondering if the OP was more concerned with seeing big recount scores as with his boomkin/lock, perhaps he doesnt know that there will only be very limited addon support.

Also I can see some people trying to solo-aoe farm mobs, getting their butts handed to them. At least until some decent gear comes their way.

Think it will be useful in certain dungeon pulls, however, I think this game's dungeons tend to bite back hard if players treat them like wrath's dungeons.

AoE doesn't have to be simplified. AoE grinding in EQ1 was possible because of CC and was a lot more difficult than current games. 2 enchanters locking down 60 mobs at a time was both risky and rewarding.
