    this is a very difficult question to answer without more information. what playstyle are you looking for? do you prefer melee or ranged? is there a specific role you are looking to fill (heal, dps, tank)?.

    each of the 4 classes has 8-10 souls (depending on whether you have bought any soul packs) and can fill any of the 4 main roles; Tank, Healer, DPS and Support. each build you create uses 3 of the souls you have which you spend points in to give you the passives and abilities that you will use to fulfil your chosen role. each class can do every role but with varying playstyles and mechanics unique to them meaning that you never play each class the same as another.

    quick breakdown;

    Cleric - has 3.5 Healing souls to choose from which specialise in ST or AoE depending on soul choice. has a good all round Tank build including some trickle healing for the group and a combat res, also has the best ranged agro (imo). currently FoTM DPS in Inquisitor for ranged as well as a competitive melee soul, both perform well and has potentially the best solo soul in the game with Druid. (has access to all roles except Support for free)

    Mage - has the most Ranged DPS souls of all the classes and has some good hybrid potential. their Healing soul deals damage to heal giving it the best DPS for any healer and is able to switch between AoE and ST healing mid fight (15s CD between swaps). has one of the best tanking souls (was pre-3.0, haven't seen one since) with powerful CD's to save themselves from death. (has access to all roles except Tank for free)

    Rogue - Has good set of both AoE and Ranged DPS souls with various degrees of utility. has a good all round tank that utilises teleports and shield mitigation with arguably the best survivability via CD's than any other class. Healing is currently the best in PvP and is great for dungeons and raids for its ability to swap between ST and AoE with no CD between swapping (that I know of). (has access to all roles except Healing for free)

    Warrior - has 2 tanking options with some of the best passive mitigation to offer. primarily Melee DPS with only 1 or 2 (Reaver?) ranged option but is still competitive. Healing is primarily AoE with a few ST abilities making it the weakest Tank healer of the classes but is potentially the best AoE healer (if used correctly). (has access to all roles except Healing for free)

    for Support roles currently you can have 2 at any one time due to overwriting of abilities. Clerics and Rogues don't mix with Cleric currently the better option (paid for soul), but Rogues are being looked at iirc so could change. Warriors and Mages don't mix with Mages currently being on top between the 2, Warriors priority is getting the Healing soul fixed so might be a while before support gets looked at.

    myself am a Cleric and thus have a slightly biased opinion towards Cleric. I might have some things wrong in the above and someone will put me right but it is just my overall opinion of the classes with a Cleric bias, with most of my knowledge coming from what ive noticed in raids.

    currently Cleric seems to be the overall FoTM with the highest burst DPS, and best fit Healing for the current Expert dungeons since they beat the Tank senseless and Purifier has the best ST healing/mitigation. but FoTM is just that, although some classes spend more time being on top than others, and changes fairly often when sweeping changes are made within the classes souls. currently Warriors are at the bottom for Healing but if the soul gets an overhaul they could become the FoTM for a while until the next Healing soul gets looked at.

    TL;DR - pick what feels comfortable to you, without more info we cant help you make a decision. try different souls in each of the class, maybe level them up a little. put the names in a hat and pick one at random, the one you were hoping for is the one you choose not necessarily the result you pick! (usually best way)

    Pick what you enjoy, but I would strongly advise you to stay away from Warrior. We've been a train wreck since day one and it's not getting any better.

    This here is easily the best advice for any noob. Pick the class that pertains to the role you want to fill the most.

    If you want to be a Healer pick Cleric they have the most healing souls to choose from. Now this doesn't mean you wont enjoy being a healer as a Mage or Rogue but now your stuck with just 1 healing soul to choose from.

    Each Class specializes in a particular area of play for options.

    Warrior - Tank
    Cleric - Heal
    Rogue - Physical DPS Melee
    Mage - Magical DPS Ranged

    All classes are enjoyable - Warrior a little less than the others due some issues.
