Default IDEA: The Harborman - Novelty Soul

When Russ Brown discussed in an interview that Novelty souls were something he was pushing for I began thinking about ... fishing!
Now I know that fishing is something usually placed under the crafting/gathering professions, however I'd hate for it to be included in the list of professions where you can only have a choice of 3 of them and possibly miss out in the gloriousness of fishing.
What I would love to see is a "novelty" soul called "Harborman" or something similar.
Things you could put points into could include:
    - Greater chance at successfully catching a fish?
    - Greater chance at successfully catching a rare fish?
    - Greater yield when successfully catching a fish (ie. x2, x3 etc)?
    - Further distance that fishing holes can be located on your mini map?
    - Unlock "Spear fishing"?
    - The above bonuses with different types of fishing (spear fishing, net fishing, )
    - All these different "types" of fishing would allow for different kinds of fish to be caught (like how you could get a sting-ray with a net or spear but not a fishing pole)

    Edit:To add some more ideas
    - - Decreased cast time (so you dont have to wait as long for a nibble)

I'd love some feedback on this idea from all the other mmo fishing fanatics out there like myself.
What would you like to see in your fishing experiences?

I know personally I'd like to see "fishing chairs" where you can sit back and relax...

Sounds like a great idea. I think we need a Jester soul too, who juggles, does acrobatics, etc.

The idea of novelty souls sounds like a lot of fun. I really like this idea and it has a lot of potential for growth later on too.

Your Harborman here is a great example , nicely done.

I have no problem with fishing being a regular crafting profession but I think there's definitely room for something like this to help flesh out the crafting experience. It wouldn't even be a "novelty" soul anymore but a legitimate crafting one. You could always take it a step further too like shark catcher, shrimp catcher, whale catcher, etc. to give you specific benefits for those particular fishable creatures but that may be pushing it.

    - Decreased cast time (so you dont have to wait as long for a nibble)

In all honesty, I think crafts and professions should have dedicated souls to enhance them.
This is in addition to the actual profession. So players can still become blacksmiths and Weavers, but those that truly want to spend their time crafting can dedicate their time as true masters of their craft using the soul tree to enhance their profession.

    I like this.

Not much to add to your particular idea, only that these novelty souls could certainly add that additional depth to Rift that many people love.

After seeing this idea and the ideas of others listed here I thought about it too. Would be great to have crafting souls that enhance the crafting experience. I guess there's a possibility as well for them to just simply making the crafting system that works exactly like the souls system.

Even my dark passenger wants to play Rift.

I think it sounds great and alot more "epic" than your typical crafting.
With Crafting Souls you could call yourself awesome names such as:

    The Harborman - fishing
    The Horticulturist - herb gathering
    The Smithmaster - armorsmith/weaponsmith

But you get the idea, anyone have other ideas?

Maybe summon a fishing shack in cold weather zones too to go over the ice hole

How about cattle rustler/horse thief souls, you get a lasso skill your mount speed is boosted by 10% and 10% reduction on vendor prices.

Chance of spawning local law enforcement which are only hostile to you

I like that sort of comedic ideas! I think that would be cool... like a "Bandit" soul!

Hunter: Emphasis on Skinning, Tanning, working leather, fletching arrows and crafting bows.
Pharmacist: Enhances Alchemy, Brewing and other medicinal or pharmaceutical professions.
    Master Chef: Cooking.
Jeweler: Enhances fossiking (Finding gems), gemcutting and gold/silversmithing.

Of course assuming these professions actually exist.
