Default The mage formerly known as the Chloromancer

Ok, so we've probably all seen the thread about the new name for the Chloromancer

    http://forums.riftgame.com/showthrea...Soul-for-Rift!

Now, what are your impressions based on the description?

Personally, I thought of a couple good names for the class, like

    Needsdualtargeting
    and
    Noplaceinraids

but seriously, what do you think?

I'm reminded of the Shadow Priest in WoW, healing the entire group as their deal damage, though there's not necessarily reason to think they'd be limited to purely AOE healing. They could buff a single target to cause them to be the recipient of the brunt of the healing, for instance.

Was this what you were expecting? Are you excited about it?

yeah i thought it sounded similar to a bloodmage in VG but how can u heal someone as you damage them without dual targeting ? AOE ? Gonna have to wait and see.

I am quite interested in this class already and look forward to hear more about it. It wouldn't kill Trion if they can start updating their website with the souls they told us they were putting in the game unless they plan on removing them in beta if they don't work out.
Also check out Trion's MMORTS game here.

I want Rift to be released in 2012 Q3.

Well... at least in this game you can have a class that isn't ideal for raids. Maybe it'll have a buff/debuff that makes it at least considerable for a raid slot =/

I totally like this idea! Wish we had a Cleric soul like this! Does decent dmg and decent healing based off of the dmg done. Just like the Shadow Priest in WoW.

On a side note.. I have to say this to the people who keep thinking they are going to have an actual healing mage that can keep up with Clerics. Are you still convinced? =P

Shot.. I LOVED the Shadow Priest in WoW when I had one grouped with me. I would like to see this soul in a raid.

take a look at the Justicar soul tree. to some extent it deos do healing based on its damage. Though it is more Disciple from VG then Shadow Priest of WoW

Trion won't add info on something till it is 100%, they stated this in a thread about guilds so I'm assuming that they aren't 100% certain on the classes not listed.

meh dual targeting, I dunno since I've never played a game with it but I don't care about it.
If you think that the class will have no place in raids...great news is that you can just not play as it! yep its crazy I know, but you can change your spec for any purpose you are needed for in the raid.

    My opinion:

The Chloromancer will be avoided like the plague by the min / maxers. It won't be accepted in groups or raids as either a healing class or a dps class.

That being said. I like it. I can see at least one of my Elementalist builds investing points into Chloromancer, with a strong possibility of using a 0 point Cholomancer soul in most of my builds for self healing (depending on starting abilities: we know the warlock gets a life tap at 0 points.)

That's an interesting idea. I've never played wow and it's not a mechanic I've come across in other games. On the cleric side a justicar is somewhat similar - as they build convictions through attacks and then cash them in for healing, although its not based on a percent of the damage.

yea the Justicar is somewhat similar.. I kinda like the Shadow Priest way of healing.. Just in case you have a run where you could use that extra bit of healing but nothing that's going to hurt the dps a lot. Justicar does this just fine it seems but in a slightly different manner.

I'm glad it does because I'm tired of all the people thinking that Mages should heal as good as Clerics. They NEVER should! Main healing is for Clerics and no one else in my book.

Agreed, as I was hoping it's possible for them to help as an off healer but main heals should always be a healer class.

exactly! I do NOT have 1 (one) problem at all with a mage off healing! I want to be a Cleric for a reason. We are probably going to hear them bitc# now, claiming that the Cleric calling gets a melee dps and casting dps soul and that mages don't get anything. Our melee dps is going to be lacking because it has heals (or should at least lack some dps cause of these heals) and the same goes for the Inquisitor.
