So, if you don't spec into rez or heal within one of your souls, you will likely not have it. As the way it should be. The entire system is designed around the souls and creative usage by using them together or independently. It's not really based on the calling. If there was a level attributed ability distribution system, it would likely have to be tied to the calling and not the souls. I could be wrong, but I'm quite sure this is the way Trion intended the game to focus when they devised the calling/soul system.
You're correct, Chronibis. However, they have done some level 'restrictions' in a way for at least one soul. The ranger, for example, has a 'summon lesser razorbeast' root ability that says this:
Calls forth a Lesser Razorbeast to aid the Ranger. The maximum level of the summoned pet is 23.
So in a way there is a restriction there since I assume that pet is not going to be great at level 50? I haven't really seen anything similar for non-pet abilities when looking through the trees, though.

There's so many souls to choose from I just don't know where to start. The Purifier and Inquisitor really interests me, as does the Shaman... but I don't think I'll decide what sort of a healer build to work towards at this stage, otherwise I'd end up changing my mind way too many times : /

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't they say that after you spend points in the soul trees you would go to a trainer and train the higher ranks of certain spells? Maybe this is how you get the greater version. It would be quite stupid imho if they didn't have any high level pets.

The ranger gets a normal razorbeast with 24 points in the tree, and a raptor with 31. They smartly capped the low level pets so you couldn't simply choose ranger as a secondary profession, dump in a point or two, and have a level 50 pet following you around. If you want a stronger version, you'll have to sink more points into the tree.

It would be ridiculous if everyone could have a max level pet along with their class that wasn't meant to have one. I wish they would release all the classes so we could effectively start theory crafting. I know a good majority of the skills are out there, but they are still subject to change. The wait for this game is starting to get to me. heh.

I've seen everyone saying that purifier is a defiant class, does anyone know where this was stated? If I missed it I just want to know so I can stop hoping to play the class lol.

It's a starting class for Defiant, but you can get it later on even if you're Guardian. It was confirmed at Gamescom....it's in a thread or video around here somewhere =/

Yeah that is true for spell ranks. But in the case of some of the ranger pets it looks like some are arbitrarily restricted to a maximum level for the pet (i.e. they don't necessarily scale with yours). I've seen nothing like this for normal spells in my perusal of cleric trees, though, so maybe it's just a pet thing.

Edit: Never mind, I'm wrong. It looks like you'll be able to use Lesser Razor Beast and Lesser Dire Wolf until your 20s but after then it'll be pretty useless unless you put more points into the tree. This makes sense actually, and makes sense as to why they aren't letting you catch your own pets because otherwise, people would just go full into one awesome DPS spec, and pick up the Ranger soul or something and only put a few points into it to be able to summon, and suddenly they will have an awesome pet that scales with them. They are forcing you to go deep into a pet tree in order to get a really good pet, or else everyone would have a really good pet even if they barely put any points into the Ranger tree.

yea.. this could be the case. It really doesn't affect me since I probably wont play a ranger but I would definitely like to see pets that scale with the characters level but of course it can easily be done very wrong. Either way, I'm not going to bash anything til it launches and I see how it all works out.

Is there a separate mana/energy pool for healer caster and melee abilties?

I don't know if there is energy at all save for Rogue, which apparently works the same as WoW. Remember, pretty much all the callings work by mana and/or by combo points. (The only question so far is Cleric, which apparently only one class has been seen with combo points and the rest are straight mana.)

I'm pretty sure that from what we've seen / heard so far by the time we get to release everyone save for Rogue will be based on mana and combo points. (And we can pretty much call the Rogue system 'mana' as well since it will work basically in the same manner.) That seems to be the direction they have taken. I don't see Clerics needing to worry about mana and energy and combo points. That'd just make their heads asplode.
