    Post The Shaman Soul Tree

OK, this is the last (I think) of the videos of soul trees I took at Gamescom - Enjoy! As you'll notice, the Shaman is a melee cleric that has some serious elemental protections.

    The video:

As always, Wobbley spent some time typing up the tree and wikifying it.

Hopefully someone gets the missing trees at PAX!

A wiki is only as good as its contributors won't you help?

    Thanks again Ciovala

I'm not going to be Positive Paul here, but the class concerns me a bit. I can't seem to relate it to any previous forms of Shaman, which is fine, but it seems very fragile. Definitely a soul you would want to invest in when soloing or perhaps PVP. It just looks a bit funky.

There are so many proc (chance) effects, it's overwhelming. Don't get me wrong, I love me some procs, but sometimes you can have too much. No noe wants to pray to the RNG gods before every battle, "that is so 1999."

You can have one Heart up, one Courage, and one Vengeance. That sounds like a lot of customization, but honestly abilities like that in many games are just filler and rarely get used.

I obviously haven't played, it may totally fit and play really well. This is all an observation of the ability list posted, as a longtime MMO player who focuses primarily on critiquing classes.

Does this look to anyone else like Rift's "monk" class?

Specialty in 2-H staffs. (and hammers)
Abilities that increase mitigation and defenses.
    Increases to healing taken
    Moderate self-healing
    Decent AOE damage

Phrasing like: "Embrace the elemental essences of wind and ice"

No unarmed combat, but otherwise it does feel monk-y to me.

EDIT: Ability names like "unstoppable force" and "heart of the mountain" say "monk" to me too

I'm curious, some of these abilities (especially the endurance booster and the shield skill) look as if the shaman might be at least a workable part-time tank ... anyways, this is another class that will add some nice flexibility to the priest classes.

The more I see about the class system, the more I like it.

I agree, thanks Cio for giving us all these trees to theorycraft over .

Anyway, about RNG, I don't see that many RNG abilities, unless you opt not to put talents in some of the 20/...100% talents. There is the interrupt spell 25%, along with the passive abilities mana gain and prohibiting stealth. The mana gain is used probably for longer battles, where it doesnt matter if you miss a couple in a row. The stealth talent is abit odd, I don't know how that will work, but probably it is effective against rogues.

Then we have the fragility, well it doesn't look like they can heal too much, but can have a 15% increase in armor, use the Bear Courage and get a whooping 65% increase in Endurance (I believe this is hit points). They also have appropriate resistances, a charge and can heal when they are hit by crits.

Finally, Courage, Vengeance, Heart: I really like this mechanic: these will be spread to the RAID, and will be extremely useful. The Courages are 1 hour duration as is the Hearts. Vengeance is 15-21s duration. The cast times of Courage and Heart is 3 seconds, so the Shaman will have to prepare to be able to change and spread the buffs.

Personally, I think this class looks really cool and is offering a completely different option for Clerics than the healer role.

I'm not so sure about this soul tbo. This soul will probably only be use by me to buff my "off spec" justicar. At the least put 10 pts. in it to get the 10% 2h mace dmg and 5% crit.

    Nice reply.

If the Shaman is suppose to be the "tank" of the Cleric calling, I think a few things could be streamlined and adjusted. Right now it just seems to be a bundle of things, more-so than any other class we've seen so far.

Currently we're seeing that each soul is fairly defined with a few options, that way you can dip into other souls as need be. I don't mind the spread, a few classes should have that be their niche, but.. You know, let me put it this way:

This is the first ability list that actually screams ALPHA to me. Every other one seems fairly polished given the stage the game's development is at.

Courage of the Eagle + Shared Purpose, for example. or CoBear.

    .
I quite agree here; to me it looks like a melee dps with buffs OR a PvP class, or maybe even a tank as you suggest. The abilities don't all look to be coherent in regards to one single role. But, it looks cool and it's alpha so.. should get ironed out in bejda. ^^
