Default Can people knock it off with the word tank!

Tanks were designed around the battle of the Somme to get over muddy trenches in front of machine gun fire so ffs tanks have no place in fantasy themed games. It's not in the manual either. Also I don't want to be a mug where I do all the hard work and take damage whilst the mages and clerics just sit back and relax.

Also TRION please make it so that u can group all the same calling together like all 5 rogues whatever. That will stop people crying out for beakers and tanks.

BUT PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD BAN THE WORD TANK I BEG YOU!

yeah don't blame the people blame the devs in this genre, with their notion that every dungeon be balanced around tank+healz+3deeps. as soon as that idea is put to bed, or content is dynamic enough such that when you walk in the door of a dungeon with say 5 rogues, it adjusts itself accordingly, then you will always have people looking for heavily armored warriors who can take a beating... aka tanks....

The term "Tank" and its definition as related to MMOs has been in use for years. You need to get used to it and broaden your definition.

God, must be a slow day in the whine factory if we're reduced to complaining about the use of a word that has been used for donkey's years in the RPG world to describe a role in battle.

    /rolleyes

Good lucking building the code and the engine that can handle that sort of thing...

Maybe they should call them Trolls?

After all, a "tank" has the ability to annoy the mob to the point that no matter how much others go after them, they can't seem to stop paying attention to the tank/troll.

OP, Rift like many other games is designed around the "Holy Trinity" group composition.

It was a fundamental design decision that they went with and are not likely to change that any time soon.

As for your annoyance with the term "tank", well, words fail me. Tanks are also vessels to hold materials. So what's your point?
Do you hate the term "Caster" too? After all, that's a type of sugar.

It's a term which has been embedded in the MMO industry now for quite a few years. Either get used to it, or stop playing MMO's.

Actually, that term would relate to a healer, since 'mitigation' means 'removing or compensating for the effects of', in this case a healer 'mitigates' damage.

The holy trinity doesn't only exist in video games... Look at actual combat with actual warfare:

What line of defense do you see first, Tanks and other artillery.
Second: The Damage dealers, Foot soldiers, gunners.
    Third: Feild Medics...

Explain how a healer "removes or compensates" for damage: Answer? Healing.

How does a tank "remove or compensate" for damage: Answer? Toughness and block and dodge and parry.

I would say the definition still carries more wait for a tank than a healer.

And besides mitigation really means: relief.

I think you might want to double check the definition...
