    Default The problem with roles...

...and everyone having them, changing all the time.

You bop carelessly along in the world and come across a major rift a few levels higher than your character. So you join into the fray together with the public group already there.

As it turns out, out of 3 clerics and 1 mage, no one is in a healing role, the group wipes on the final stage.

Everyone rezzes and you figure, that since you have a healer role, and the lack of heals was what caused the wipe. You should probably switch.

Only to find that this go-around. Everyone had the same idea. Now you have 4 healers and no one doing anywhere close to enough dps to bring it down...

So yeah. How about some way to flag yourself according to party-role (tank/heal/dps/support) associate said flag with different character-roles. And just have a simple little indication somewhere what party-role you flag at.
Preferably by the purple party member dots on the mini-map being colour coded, rather than all purple.

Let's say for instance white dots for people flagging as healers. Red for tanks. Green for DPS. Blue for support. And lastly purple for unflagged / this role don't fit any party designation.

So if you join a public group and see all white, for example, you can switch to something more needed before engaging in combat.

(and as additional bonus. During them big zone event zerging raid groups, you can make sure to head the same way as the healers/tanks go if the raid group splits. Some heading for that rift there, and others for that other rift. As they often do.)

You can always just talk with those people...

This isn't a problem with roles, it's a problem with communication.

This might be the dumbest thing I've ever read on a forums.

It's that hard to say "I'll heal"?

    Really?

    It's that hard?

*facepalm* (insert generic "you're an idiot" comment here)

You mean like whats already there, those pretty little colors in the raid window do actually stand for something you know.

    Red= Tank, Blue= healer, Yellow= DPS, Purple= Support.

    thank you and goodnight.

Are you suggesting something different than the color-coding for names already there? The party names are different colors depending on whether you're the tank, ranged or melee dps, support or heals.

What he said. What you are asking for is already in the game, just look at the color of everyone's name.

If you use raid frames, the names are colored. Red = Tank, blue = heals, rest = yellow.

Open world rift. Public group =/= Raid.

Public on the fly groups does not have roles.

    Completely wrong. It is:

    Red: Warrior
    Blue: Cleric
    Purple: mage
    Yellow: Rogue.

You have no way of knowing their roles, unless you communicate.

Exactly. I use an Archon / Pyro build (Majority in Archon because it's so scrumptious) as an experiment for normal day to day playing at the moment. In a Warfront, I quickly check what we have in terms of Clerics and Rogues, see who is focussing on healing and if the number is low I flip to a Chloro/Archon build.

Communication. Talk to the other players and find out what's up. You don't need a fancy interface for it

Because anytime someone joins in an already going rift/invasion combat. Everyone liek totally will stop to have a little chat.

Yeah, ok, so my misstake was to include a little cutesy story on this forum. Should have known better. The laugh we had about it after the fact, kind of made me forget what the community really is like on the forum vs. in the game.

No your wrong. I'm a mage and my name is blue when healing. A rogue tanking is red when tanking. DPS is always yellow regardless of class. This is when you are using raid frames.

    you are wrong.

    it is
blue=healer (most points spent into healing soul, chloro counts as healer ofc)
purple=support (warlord, archon, bard show up as such)
red= tank (justicar, rs, paladin, vk, reaver)
    yellow/orange = mdps/rdps (forget who is who)
