Lightbulb Leveling after hitting level cap

I was bored at work the other day, and something hit me:
In MMO's we keep bumping into these bosses who were once "human",
now they are able to solo 10+ players...
So, why do we have a level cap or a limited merit system that prevent us from
becoming "gods?" I think it would be cool if there is an endless leveling/meriting
system, even if that means just be able to raise your base stats.

Theres actualy a interesting example of what you suggested. on private Ragnarok online servers, some of them let you go to level 999 or something even more ludicrous<the original levels ended at 99> so your basicaly going through the original content with something that makes gods cry. <note this is pointing out their existance and not directing him towards one>

I personaly dont like the whole god mode feeling, it gets boring fast. but to each his own and its interesting to try atleast once.

your sir are an idiot, thats really all i got to say. But since you want to be a "god" go try out tibia, where you can throw spears all day on your to valhalla with the gods. There is no level cap but get ready to dedicate yourself to reaching that "god hood"

I think hes put forward his idea rather poorly. However, fundamentally, its not a bad idea and if you look at the Alternate Advancement system that Age of Conan has then it gives some real fun to end game beyond rading and instances for tiered gear.

So instead of having gankers bullet their way to 50 so they can come to the level 20 area and gank the lowbies until they finally catch up and punish those sad individuals... You want the people who live on this game with no job and all the time in the world to be permanently ahead of everyone and can just gank anyone they want.

    Fantastic idea.

Play Rappelz. The level cap is so ridiculously hard to reach that, after 4 years or so, no one has yet reached it. By the time you get close to it, you have shiny platinum armor, a weapon the size of a small car, and enough power to level a city. Close enough to god mode?

Asheron's Call (an old blast-from-the-past-for-me) introduced this concept - you are just in the wrong MMO.

Technically, while there was no leveling limit in AC, the skill advancement was curved so that it became less and less favorable to keep leveling for leveling's sake.

But the game is also unbalanced as hell when PvP is concerned.

You do exactly this by gearing up your toon with T1/T2/raid gear/future raid gear
