    Default Aedraxis Mathos

When King Jostir the Ancient mysteriously died, his two twin sons Aedraxis and Zareph were pulled into a horrible and brutal civil war that has became known as the Shade War. As the battles between sorcerers and knights of the crown ravaged the northern half of Telara, the elder brother Aedraxis resorted to dread magic that fractured the protective ward around Telara and pulled the Plane of Death over the land, forever morphing him into an undead king of horrors, and destroying most of the Mathosian homeland in a magical disaster known as the Shade.
Interesting...Between him and Regulos the Destroyer, it is obvious that Trion is putting alot of work into the underlying story of the game. As a longtime MMO player, I have recently made it a point now to immerse myself more into the mythos of an MMO, as to find more enjoyment in it. Like many others, I have found myself overlooking these story elements for the sake of accomplishment over the years.

I'm the same as you. Lore rich games are really fun to me. Getting to read about events, places, and people from the lore and then getting to actually go and see them all in-game. It's prety awesome!

When I played WoW I already knew all the history and lore from playing the old Warcraft games and reading the books. It was really neat.

Lore is important to me too - honestly, I cannot play a game without a rich story to it. It's as important as my connection to a character I create - if I don't feel the connection to my character, the game might as well be dead to me.

I really want/need some great villain to be in the beginning of the game that you just have to kill and not just add "random boss #42" which doesn't give any feeling at all to kill more then "yay". It doesn't even have to be a big final bad *** last raid boss either, it could just be you are in a zone and there is this npc that does this and that and he lurks around there so you get a quest at the end of the zone to dispatch him.

Another interesting note about Aedraxis: He *was* actually king during the Mathosian Civil War, even though he battled Zareph over the throne. Obviously Aedraxis was corrupted and Zareph could not stand by and let him rule the kingdom.

I haven't yet discovered if Zareph was made king after Aedraxis' demise at the hands, err TENTACLES, of the Shade. Curious!

Zareph never became king since Aedraxis never stopped being king. Zareph fled and founded Port Scion but many Mathosians went north with their new liege Aedraxis.

But if this is true does this mean that the Guardians are nothing but a legion of traitors? Since they abandoned their king and I would hazard a guess to say that they plan on killing him. :O Just something to think about.

Actually, Aedraxis died as king during the events of the Shade (killed BY the Shade, in fact). Who ruled after that, I believe we have yet to discover. Also, there doesn't appear to be any indication that Port Scion did not exist prior to Zareph and the other Shade survivors arrival, so I don't think he actually FOUNDED it per se, just went there as a safe haven.

I hope I get to be an evily, undeadish Aedraxis Mathonian. They sound way cooler than a Zeraph one but I doubt it'll happen.

I don't think you have it quite right. Aedraxis wasn't "killed" per-se, he was "[morphed] into an undead king of horrors". I know the history page says he was killed off but he's still a conscious being able to rule, not a corpse. In fact, the Mathosian race page says many survivors followed him north and still serve their new, evil King.

As for Zeraph and Port Scion, it says he and his followers "founded" it. In my book, that means they were the ones to originally establish it. So, unless otherwise stated, I'd say it's safer to assume it wasn't there before they arrived.

This one seems pretty clear. Is this contradicted somewhere else that I missed?

Now, please understand that I'm not saying you're not right about Zeraph founding Port Scion. I just can't yet find the reference you're talking about and I'm trying to do my best to get the story straight. Could you point me to where it's mentioned that they founded Port Scion?

    Both from the Mathosian page:

...the elder brother Aedraxis resorted to dread magic that fractured the protective ward around Telara and pulled the Plane of Death over the land, forever morphing him into an undead king of horrors, and destroying most of the Mathosian homeland in a magical disaster known as the Shade. Many of the loyal followers fled the scourge of the Shade with Zareph and eventually founded the great city of Port Scion. True to their oaths and duty to the line of kings, many Mathosians tragically fled north with their newly crowned liege Aedraxis Mathos, serving an unspeakable evil that now festers in the hearts of all Telarans.
I know the History page and the Mathosian page are a bit contradictory but I figure the Mathosian page focused a little more heavily on those actual events so it would be the accurate one. It's Trion's fault that we're confused.

Aedraxis intrigues me and I find so far to be quite identifiable because I do not percieve him to be the embodyment of evil but rather more of a true soul anchored in humanity who has been seduced by the essence and need for power that evil possesses. Isn't this the goal and nature of most living things to obtain power and influence in order to maximize their, their followers, and their offspring's chances of survival. I like him. I just don't want to meet him alone... and unarmored...

BEAUTIFUL! Thanks for pointing that out! Perhaps Aedraxis didn't fall for some time after the arrival of the Shade, but yet still by it's hand err... tentacle..y..THING (or related evil deathly powers of doom)

I won't fault Trion too badly.. Let's face it, this world, the game, and it's lore thus far are BRILLIANT! Besides, I think this case is more of a fault of my mis-interpretation of a relatively vague statement, than an actual mis-statement.

Eh, only problem is he was fiddling around with people that sought to bring about the end of the world and may have actually done just that when his actions unleashed the Shade. He did quite the opposite of maximize his follower's chance of survival unless you count becoming zombie slaves as surviving. He's evil, dumb, and gonna be a pretty fun boss fight.

LOL! I'm sure Aedraxis would be quite happy to add you to his list of followers. There IS power in numbers, after all!

True but heck Souper, if you could fiddle with it, wouldnt you? I know i would! Not only because I love the word fiddle but i love the innuendos that it unleashes!
