    Default Current (Lv 60 endgame) State of the Zones

    SPOILERS BE HERE!

    Well, I'm bored at night again! Time to write about where I think every region of Telara is at, timeline-wise. Why? Again, I'm bored.

    While you're playing the game, the immersion part of your mind may wonder "Why are these enemies still here? I thought I killed them several times over?"

    Well obviously, you did. Due to design limitations, zones are static, regardless of 'dynamic events'. So I've taken it upon myself to update any readers with where the lands we've supposedly saved are at. Now, when you enter a particular zone, you can let's-pretend that many of the mobs aren't there, and that the area is in the process of healing.

    Current = Lv 60, patch 2.4, current Tier 2 raiding.
    I do not know what's in the future of Rift, nor what Lv 65 and 3.0 brings.
    I'm going through each zone chronologically by level, so I'll make mention of story developments as they come (like “Wanton goblin forces remain later in Gloamwood” will be addressed later in the Gloamwood entry)

    As always, I could be wrong with details. Let me know!

    ~~~~~
    'Mathosia' (Past-Stillmoor), Lv 1-6, Death (Endless Court)
    STATUS: N/A
    -Becomes Stillmoor zone
    'Terminus' (Future-Freemarch), Lv 1-6, Death (Endless Court)
    STATUS: Complicated
    -Due to Stillmoor zone events (by both factions), is no longer attached to this timeline, but instead is considered akin to a Sliver, until further notice by the devs
    -The only tie we have to Terminus (or maybe multiple Termin..i?) is the failsafe device, which, as far as we know, continues to steam out other Defiant Ascended just as the Silverwood altar streams out other Guardian Ascended (but any 'other' Ascended can be considered but the extras in the film our player-characters are the star of, haha)
    Silverwood, Lv 6-20, High Elven and Mathosian, Fire (Wanton), Life (Aelfwar, Fae)
    STATUS: Peaceful
    -Aelfwar and Wanton routed from the woods, Silverwood has become the shining example of Guardian purity on Telara. Wanton invaded areas are reclaimed, and the pure High Elves retake Overwatch Keep
    -The Realm of the Fae has the Fae Court leader Lord Twyl killed and later becomes the Realm of Twisted Dreams dungeon (I think?), and Atrophinius is dealt with later on in Runic Descent, Greenscale's Blight Chronicle, Autumn Harvest world events, and Dendrome's zone and Chronicle
    -Argent Glade and Quicksilver College are annexed by the Guardians, turning Silverwood into official Guardian territory
    -The Wanton goblin forces remain later in Gloamwood questing (with another group in southern lands), and Aelfwar undertook their own Crusade towards Stillmoor
    -Some Aelfwar may be wandering about (as seen in 1.4 Dragon Mote world event), but there is no more organization
    Freemarch, Lv 6-20, Former-Mathosian and Kelari, Death (Endless Court), Water (Abyssal)
    STATUS: Peaceful
    -Abyssal and Endless routed from the fields, Freemarch has become a shining example of Defiant resilience on Telara. Abyssal invaded areas are reclaimed, and the Wardens retake the Iron Fortress
    -The Iron Tombs are cleared of undead and demons, Eliam is dealt with later on in Runic Descent, but Alsbeth is met at several more points in questing, ending in River of Souls raid
    -Kelari Refuge likely begins to build as a real village, Smith's Haven is likely retaken by the Wardens as a heavily Defiant sympathetic trade town, and Lakeside Outpost and Vestige might be resettled
    -Meridian is largely cleared of Abyssal influence and the Endless' exploitation of the dead is ended
    -Abyssal forces remain in Moonshade Highlands and Iron Pine Peak, and Endless Court forces persist in several more zones until vanquished
    -Some spies may persist in the region, but the Unseen ensure that none penetrate Meridian's security
    Gloamwood, Lv 20-27, Mathosian, Death (Endless Court), Fire (Wanton)
    STATUS: Safe
    -Gloamwood Pines is saved from the external goblin threat, and the internal werewolf threat (infected noble families), meaning they can fully join the Guardians in alliance
    -The Mathosian Mill is likely retaken by workers for full production
    -The Endless (and their Hag tool) are defeated, and the Wanton (and their pet dragons) are exterminated from their caves of Darkening Deeps
    -The area, cursed as it is, likely still suffers attacks from spirits and other beasts, but it now has hope that the Shade presence may be eventually purified to rejoin Silverwood's splendor
    -Alsbeth flees here, just as she did in Freemarch
    Stonefield, Lv 20-27, Former-Mathosian, Death (Endless Court), Earth (Titan, Laethys)
    STATUS: Safe
    -Granite Falls is saved from the territory's troll threat, and the nearby curse of the undead, meaning they can fully join the Defiants in alliance
    -The Deepstrike Mines are likely retaken by workers for full mining of sourcestone and artifacts, and Defiant research camps are free to continue their work
    -Alsbeth flees from her attempt to destroy the town with undead
    -While a Defiant experiment gone wrong opens the region to a Titan who was waiting for an easy portal to enter, the Ascended defeat him and trolls loyal to him
    -The area likely still suffers from occasional undead and troll tribes, but it now has hope to take the land and make it safe for the human population
    Port Scion, no levels, Mathosian, Death (Endless Court)
    -It's not known what's happening now with it – only that the Endless are defeated here, but the two factions may still be struggling over who gets to control the city and its resources
    Scarlet Gorge, Lv 27-29, Mathosian and Former-Mathosian, Death (Endless Court), Earth (Golden Maw), Fire (Wanton)
    STATUS: Reclaimed
    -The southern section is cleared of Golden Maw mining for sourcestone by the Defiants, the northern section is also cleared of Endless by the Guardians, and each player faction secures their share of land
    -Alsbeth is stopped in her attempt to convert a gnar queen to her army in the Foul Cascade, again she fails and flees...
    -Rock Ridge, previously taken over by Wanton demons, is liberated and likely resettled. The goblin regions outside of it are cleared out, finishing off the goblin power on Mathosia
    -It'll be a longer road than in previous zones, but Scarlet Gorge has a chance for renewal and success, thanks to the Ascended
    Scarwood Reach, Lv 30-35, Mathosian and Former Mathosian, Death (Endless Court), Life (Aelfwar), Air (Storm Legion)
    STATUS: Reclaimed
    -The southern section is cleared of Aelfwar trying to get past King's Breach and bolster their Life power, while the northern section is cleared of an Endless foothold. Both player factions play their role in this.
    -The remaining Aelfwar push through regardless with Hylas, to Stillmoor, but driven even more fanatically by the experience. The Endless are finally pushed all the way back to their home base, readying for Ascended and cultist assault.
    -Storm Legion presence was limited and seemingly only for experimentation, and was easily removed
    -The Sagespire is secured again for academic research
    -Keenblade Mill is taken by one of the factions for resource gain
    -Kain's Command likely moves out after the events here, taking their Shards of Regulos towards Iron Pine Peak via Gloamwood
    -Perspice remains as the last settlement in the region, claimed by the Defiants (which may make them the industrial powers there now, while Sagespire offers their own form of help to Guardians)
    -Lord's Hall remains unopened...
    -The area remains tainted by both Death and Life, and will take a while for that to heal, but hope has returned that Scarwood will become Granitewood again someday
    Droughtlands, Lv 36-44, Eth and Former-Mathosian, Fire (Wanton), Earth (Cyclops), Air (Harpies)
    STATUS: Safe
    -Air presence is only through Harpy nests, not heavily related to storyline
    -Earth presence is through two former slave cyclops tribes, and the player reaches alliance with one of them
    -Harlan's Lament does have some Death beings, ruined by cataclysm, but they are cleared out
    -Lantern Hook is saved by assault by various Wanton species; centaur, dragonians, and kobolds, who all were intent on destroying the last of Telarans there, in part of their effort to grant Maelforge power
    -These species are devastated after Ascended save the region, especially at dragonian base at Redoubt, and Lantern Hook is free again to be a (shady) trading post between Shimmersand and Freemarch
    -The Arcane Hand, non-Defiant Eth, join the Ascended, now that the people there are largely saved
    Shimmersand, Lv 43-50, Eth and Bahmi, Fire (Wanton), Earth (Golden Maw), Air (Storm Legion)
    STATUS: Safe
    -The Flatyard prison is retaken and remains a place for cultist prisoners (now probably a good dumping ground for the non-useful ones by Guardians and Defiant), guarded by the Dragonslayers
    -The Wanton are nearly wiped out, forcing alliance with the Golden Maw. Several attempts against Fortune's Shore fail, and Ascended clean up.
    -The Golden Maw are nearly wiped out, forcing alliance with the Wanton. Attempts to return Laethys fail, and attacks on Fortune's Shore.
    -The Storm Legion attempt mind control over Fortune's Shore and fail, and seek Eth tech in Charmer's Caldera. While they fail in this, they learn of Laethys' location (did they leak it to the other two cults?)
    -Fortune's Shore, after many trials and near destruction, decides to ally with both Ascended factions and likely provide much trade and resources
    -The various Eth and Bahmi tribe (or at least their locations) don't seem to return. Instead, it seems that these people either join the Defiants, or go neutral in places like Fortune's Shore, due to the danger of the rifts in open land
    -The Dragonlslayer covenant is returned to prominence and bolstered by Ascended efforts, and like the Arcane Hand, offers assistance
    -The Golden Maw and Wanton, after all of this, (semi) covertly move Laethys' remains from Charmer's Caldera to Ember Isle via ancient Travel Stones, harried by Ascended the entire time. At this point all of their remaining forces are on the Isle, attempting to reform Laethys, empower Maelforge, and prep their united forces for a large-scale war against the surviving Telaran people
    -The Storm Legion may have failed and were culled from Shimmersand, but this may have went according to Crucia's plan, as it lead to the other dragons to continue to be eliminated...
    Moonshade Highlands, Lv 35-40, Dwarven, Water (Abyssal), Life (Fae), Death (Shade, Endless Court)
    STATUS: Reclaimed
    -Three Springs stands as a prominent Guardian town and extension of Guardian power. Timerveil may still stand as at least a Defiant encampment
    -The Deathtouched fae of the plains and woods are either killed or purified, after their leader is defeated
    -The Endless do not have a strong presence, but a lot of events are due to Alsbeth's actions in a partial cooperation with the Abyssal (they both want Hammerknell opened). However, Alsbeth does attempt exploitation of the Death energy here, and tries to take control of the local undead, a returned Atrophinius, and a corrupted Eliam. However, she is pushed back and her influence is stopped. (By stopping here in Gloamwood and Moonshade, Guardians have ensured protection of Silverwood)
    -The undead dwarves of Moonshade are cleared out
    -The Abyssal are eventually largely defeated here, and their leadership (until more cabals form I suppose) is defeated inside Hammerknell Fortress, including Akylios himself. The rest scatter and attempt to reform a new Avatar of Madness (Water Saga) but both attempts (Guardian against you, Defiant against Faceless Man) fail and the Mathosian cult is shattered
    -The Death demons of Hammerknell that were allowed to fester since the Shade are set loose, but are defeated one by one by the Ascended raiding Hammerknell and reclaiming it
    -At the end of things (patch 1.3ish), Moonshade Highlands becomes cleansed of most Death corruption, the Abyssal lose their chance to form an army, and the Fae are likely returned to a more innocent status. Both player factions set their footholds, but allow the Runeguard to try to reclaim and settle Hammerknell again
    Iron Pine Peak, Lv 40-50, Mathosian and Bahmi, Water (Abyssal), Death (Shade), Air (Storm Legion)
    STATUS: Safe
    -Whitefall remains standing as protected by both factions and remnant Icewatch, and even has opportunity now for growth; same goes with the other settled camps and forts, either those that continued standing, or are liberated by the Ascended
    -The Chancel of Labours remains standing as protected by both factions, and was able to secure itself well enough, but now is severely weakened by the events of the Exodus of the Storm Queen dungeon, and is probably licking its wounds. It is a small relief that Crucia leaves the scene, as at least they no longer have the burden of guarding her
    -The Death presence is almost exclusively due to being located smack dab in the middle of three other heavily Shade-influenced zones, and it is likely purged
    -The Abyssal presence was a cabal moved there to see out an ancient Water being that may know a way into Hammerknell (leading to the 1.3 events and Hammerknell raid). They are pursued and defeated, but not before leadership takes this info to Moonshade.
    -The Storm Legion presence is major and ongoing, as they try to brainwash every citizen and Icewatch of the region. This is nearly successful, but they are stopped. They attempt to resurrect their former frozen army (likely to prepare Iron Pine for Crucia's return), but are also stopped at this. In the end, they succeed to free Crucia after the other 4 dragons are dead, but as Iron Pine is probably too dangerous for her, she leaves for Dusken to set greater plans in motion. The Storm Legion in IPP are probably left to die.
    -After all of this, is can be assumed that both factions keep up their encampments, protect Whitefall, and help reestablish the Icewatch to its former greatness, this time as protectors of the people and not jailors of a dragon
    Stillmoor, Lv 45-50, Mathosian, Death (Endless Court), Life (Aelfwar), Fire (Wanton)
    STATUS: Reclaimed
    -The Fire presence is just some more magic gone bad in a village, and not worth much noting aside from that
    -The Aelfwar leadership sprint towards Greenscale's Blight to free Greenscale, even sacrificing their Life to Death influences (werewolves, etc) along the way, or going to lengths as to brainwash their members from leaving. Their camps dotted the landscape but eventually are wiped out by Endless and Ascended, and the Prince Hylas is killed by Ascended just minutes away from freeing Greenscale. The cult is scattered and members either die, grow feral, attempt to reform an Avatar of Life (but fail), or are saved and turn back towards the Vigil
    -The Endless as an organization are wiped out here. The first major blow was at the Eye of Regulos, with Ascended disrupting a ritual to return Regulos. The second was a continued assault on the leadership of the Court (dailies and zone events). The third and final was against Alsbeth herself as she used all her power to crush the Ascended through the dangerous River of Souls, leading to her demise. After this, the Endless undead still shamble, but the Order of Mathos hold the line
    -Kain, after events at Iron Pine and Stillmoor, joins the Court and survives the Ascended purge of it (barely). He takes the last of the Court away from Stillmoor to strike directly against Sanctum/Meridian with the last of his power. This fails, and Kain (now but a Regulos-powered lich) flees through the Plane of Death to Dusken for protection of the Nexus Key. At this point, Stillmoor is freed from Endless dominance and resettlement can begin
    -Stillmoor will remain tainted for years, maybe decades or more, but now the Mathosian people have hope to rebuild. We just don't know what that future will be, given that Defiant helped in the process
    Ember Isle, Lv 50+, Kelari and Dwarves, Earth (Golden Maw), Fire (Wanton), Life (Spirits), Water (Spirits)
    STATUS: Reclaimed
    -Kelari/Defiants secure Atia and Talos Landing ruins of the Kelari. Guardians secure Fort Zarnost and Farhall of the Dwarves who shipwrecked long ago. After cult defeats on Ember Isle, both races likely expand and settle half of the region each, with some co-operation via the Keeper organization.
    -The Wanton having held most of the island for years, bolstered by corrupting native spirits and the arriving Golden Maw remnants, they held a powerful position on the island working rituals to strengthen Maelforge and his eventual brood. However, they are all but wiped out by the end, and even attempts to convert the most powerful spirits in Caduceus's Rise are stopped by the Ascended
    -The events of Infernal Dawn end the Golden Maw and Wanton leadership (or at least their Telaran presence), as well as their dragon masters. This results in cult disbanding and the game coming down to Crucia (at that point still under Iron Pine's lake) and Regulos (beyond the Ward, with Kain as Avatar)
    -Ember Isle will take some time to resettle, especially considering everything going on, but a good number of Kelari will stay here and try to rebuild their temples, and will be able to offer spiritual power to their allies in time
    -Due to planar mote (not as powerful as dragon eggs, but still related to it, it seems) dispersal from Greenscale and Akylios' deaths, various Isle spirits attempt to become new elemental gods. This is stopped in their tracks by Ascended, unwilling to let this misuse continue. At this point, the curse of these dragons seems to have ended.... (for now....)
    Mathosian continent overview:
    -Guardians hold a few regions, Defiants hold a few regions.
    -Mathosian influence would have totally ended if it wasn't for Guardian organization, due to Scarwood, Stonefield, and Freemarch peoples turning away from them and the Vigil. The Guardian banner allows a symbol for non-Defiant sympathetic people to rally under and seek the peace of the past.
    -The Mathosians have hope for reclaiming their homeland, but not much more for now, as their Empire has splintered and most seem to have joined the Guardians.
    -The Elves have accepted the death of their reign over the land, in the birth of the Guardians, and now follow Shyla (with the obvious occasional exception, and not counting Lycini elves). In this, they have some repayment in form of Guardian protection in Silverwood.
    -The Dwarves have reclaimed Hammerknell and between that, Three Springs, and Sanctum, hold a powerful line of defense in the continent. Lord's Hall is an unknown still.
    -The Eth have mostly collected into the Defiants in the wish to return to former glory, but like Mathosians, remain spread out as well, in regions like Shimmersand. For the most part though, Eth = Defiant.
    -The Bahmi no longer have their various Shimmersand tribes, and are over time uniting under a single Bahmi name in the Defiant faction due to necessity. They see a future with the Defiant and any disputes now more revolve around continuing the old ways of strict ancestor worship, or embracing the ever-increasing technologies.
    -The Kelari perhaps hold this part in kin with Bahmi; their divides between the traditional spiritual and the technological, but due to necessity of survival, they have taken the Eth lead on magitech (now empyrean infused!) and are also along for the ride. Unlike the seeming declining High Elves, the Kelari seem on their way up, with Kelari Refuge having a good chance to turning into a town, and Ember Isle being reclaimed. Both the Dwarves and Kelari had major success stories since launch, diversifying Mathosian continent society. (WRITERS - we need Bahmi and High Elven wins!)
    -The people of Freemarch ARE free and not under Defiant rule, but they willingly are working with the Defiants in rebuilding their homeland. Not Mathosian or Eth, they are by now resolving to be their own people. (though there is heavy risk of Defiants just passively absorbing them)
    -The people of Granite Falls are separate from Defiants, but their loyalty may be closer to them regardless.
    -The survivors of Rock Ridge may go either way, as they left both north and south.
    -The survivors of Perspice and other Scarwood settlements mostly had Defiant assistance, while the larger bulk of land and wild game seems to be under Guardian territory. Up to you to decide what's more important.
    -The Lantern Hook Irregulars remain steadfastly neutral, but they now have a chance of turning the town into a more legit place of business, in co-operation with the Arcane Hand. Perhaps not a new Ethian Empire will start here, but instead a large and peaceful town, a lantern in the darkness.
    -Fortune's Shore holds the hope of Shimmersand, and while it may always be shady, Dragonslayer efforts have kept the cults from gaining sway. The result may be a people who have actual pride in their community and this could turn Fortune's Shore into a place of splendor like the old Empire, but without factional affiliation.
    -Moonshade's Runeguard would have been 100% Guardian, but Defiant assistance likely keeps them from going all the way. As such, they probably will tolerate Defiant presence and Hammerknell will be a more neutral trade city that will gladly buy and sell with Defiants as well as Guardians
    -The Icewatch was traditionally Vigil-worshiping and that hasn't changed. They'll likely only tolerate Defiant presence as well, but give preference to Guardians. Ultimately, I think it's possible that Icewatch+Whitefall becomes more sovereign with Crucia gone, and they'll become their own human+(northern)bahmi people.
    -Stillmoor is also an unknown. It's very possible that Mathosia will be reborn, but not as it once was. Defiant influence (like Guardian influence on Shimmersand) may make a more moderate kingdom eventually, closer to Port Scion than the Stillmoor of old. For now, they rely on the player factions more than the other way around.
    -Ember Isle is still purely expeditionary in its settlements, but it seems pretty clear that (if all goes well) it'll eventually host a hybrid Kelari and Dwarven society where spirits will not just be bargained with, but also treated as partners in a world of the Vigil's creation. Best of both worlds, ideally.
    This makes me wish to see a Rift 2 MMO in 2018 or so
    I've been thinking about trying to establish a handle on the concept of how the rift universe is governed. Between all these over arching planes of existence there is little continuity about what actually governs the natural laws of the universe and it bugs me.
    We have Telara, Elemental Planes, other planets in the physical universe, the abyss, alternate timelines, alternate dimensions, slivers of existence, the soul stream...
    With this as inspiration I may actually try to piece something together.
    Yep! That's why I'm starting with the current open world zones, then moving more specifically into where the instances are at, and then speculation about other realms we have been involved with (like the Realm of the Fae, which I assume is related to a form of Life magic).
    Dis is comploocated stoof.
    EDIT: Also, I forgot in my last post to note that Silverwood is considered more 'ethnically' Elven, but the surviving Elves on Mathosian continent have largely accepted Guardian rule. Gloamwood itself is also more open to Guardian rule (by the very end) than Granite Falls to the Defiants. Seems the Defiants just want freedom to do what they wish, and may have learned to not dominate over territories like the Ethian Empire once did. On the other hand, I'd consider Argent Glade and Gloamwood to be more 'secure' with regular patrols.
    Yes. Unless it's 'new stuff' (Mayhem is all previous zone events, not new stuff), we're just going back to 'the past'.
    Seasonal events are iffy. Sometimes we can consider new content in them to be 'recent' in the timeline, but sometimes they are more frozen in time.
    For example, the Autumn Harvest - Atrophinius is a lot more like a Lv 50 version (peaceful with us after helping against Greenscale in the Chronicle) instead of a Lv 60 version who prefers to spend his time in Hailol in Dendrome.
    Also, I'll be continuing this thread when I have the time .
    You missed Shi-Ming and Cliffside Vale. :P
    I'll do it for you.
    Shi-Ming - MIA
    Cliffside Vale - MIA
    lol
    A graphical timeline would be cool. This is great work.
    It makes me wish they would do a "Cataclysm" and redo the old zones.
    Just an update that the Brevane+Dusken ones will be done sometime, but probably not in as much detail, as it has been a while . It'll be more of an overview.
