Default History of Telara – Lore Q&A

We hosted a LIVE Stream with the Loremaster himself!
Watch the replay || Read the Transcript

    Greetings!

We’ve seen the lore hounds getting more and more excited for the future of RIFT and we know you’re hungry for more info about the lands of Storm Legion and how everything is going to fit together.

Now is your chance to ask the questions that have kept you curious – what storylines do you want to know more about? What plots confuse you? What does the future hold for Telara?

Share your questions with us and in the next couple of weeks we’ll release a full blown Q&A answering as many of your questions as we can!

Obviously when it comes to Storm Legion – some of it will be left to surprise you, and we don’t like posting spoilers. It’s still very much in development, so even if we did want to share there are some things still yet to be decided.

The only rule is your question be related to the history, lore, and people of Telara – other than that, ask away and we look forward sharing our answers!

What is the lore behind the old beta zone called "Cliffside Vale", more recently renamed to "Planetouched Wilds"? (This is the zone north/northeast of Droughtlands.) This mystery grey zone on our maps is quite the puzzle to figure out!
    - For anyone wondering, here's an image from rift junkies of a heatmap of telara and you can see at the bottom right Cliffside Vale.

The the large map once more! We have this grey blob in the middle, north of stonefield, east of scarlet gorge and south of gloamwood. Previous mentions about this zone denote it being "City: Port of Scion". What is the lore behind this little area? On the map, it looks as if it's a mini-stillmoor crater had been created.

In the ingame book 'History of the High Elves' it seems to suggest that humans on the Malthosian continent were almost animalistic and primative when they first appeared in HE lands. These humans split with some heading south to become the Eth and some going north to become the Malthosians.

In the expac it seem likely that we will learn that the humans originally came from Brevane (might have the spelling wrong. Did something happen to the humans that were fleeing that caused them to lose all traces of their culture and knowledge as well as memories or were the HEs impressions wrong from the start?

It may be a bit innocuous, if relevant to the whole idea of getting two whole new continents, but what other civilizations apart from the ones discussed are out there?

Obviously not asking for a ginormous (yes, ginormous) map or a novel's worth of lore, but a simple nod here and there to other cultures and the like would be interesting (and add to the idea that there's a big wide world out there).

Will the Vigil eventually become our 'final' foes?

Why do the Messengers of the Vigil have katars and look like a supreme war-like race of angel-winged, blind females? Did they fight the Bloodstorm once? Will they ever contribute directly in the fights to come?

Are the Guardians' Gods really great beings? Could they simply be figments of our imagination conjured by Crucia in order to control us and push us to defeat the other dragons. Will we eventually realise these Messengers of the Vigil are in fact Messengers of Crucia?

Would Davek (the bartender of Argent Glade) serve someone who is of a race that is affiliated with Defiants?

It seems to be a heated topic of debate!

What's the deal with Shi-Ming and other powers that Port Scion traded with in the not-to-distant past?

If some of the people on Brevane managed to flee to Mathosia to escape the clutches of the blood storm, how come these continents have been forgotten? I would have thought some memory/stories of their wondrous society would have been passed on.

something ive always wondered, and heard two different answers from players, is this:

what happens when the dragons die? does their essence go back up into their plane where they still reside, but trapped? or are they just dead, gone forever? im starting to think theyre just dead, like any mortal would be, because of alltha taking over and all that. but if this is the case, why are we ascended immortal, but the dragon gods of the bloodstorm are mortal? is regulos immortal? being the dragon of death youd figure he would have control over his own

bonus question: did Greenscale, Akylios, Laethys and Maelforge have "human" forms like Regulos and Crucia do?

I have been thinking the same thing... along with also considering Orphiel a sinister figure on the other side.

I believe that Crucia most likely wiped their memories or had some sort of subtle mind-control that didn't quite completely take over their minds, but perhaps blocked off parts of their memories. Perhaps those people who managed to flee were the people who managed to resist (in part) Crucia's hold. The rest of them that didn't manage to flee either were killed, or completely taken over by Crucia to become most of the enemies we'll face in Brevane.

Crucia wiping people's memories might also explain partly why the high elves saw humans as animalistic and primitive. They might have had to relearn everything from the start.

Reading the Kelari bio page on the site states that the prime aggressor against that race was akylios and his minions but on the isle itself it is clearly Maelforge and the Pykari. The lore "seems" contradictory any chance you could clear it up.

Sorry for double post but posting the exact quotes may clear it up. The rift Kerlari Bio page reads: "Now the Elves struggled not for their way of life, but for their very existence against the profane spirit-agents of Akylios. Many Kelari willingly joined the Abyssal, and so Elf fought Elf, staining stone streets with brothers’ blood."

And the in game book of "out of the flames" reinforces a fire plane invasion.

As I complained, er, "asked about" in another thread... More lore on Crucia other than the 100 words from the SL website?
